The year 2017 seems to have passed so quickly. NP6, TK3, IP6 and Y9 students have just

sat for the UPSR, PT3 Assessment, Cambridge Primary and Secondary One Checkpoint

Assessments respectively. Year 11 (IGCSE) and TK5 (SPM) students will be sitting for the

external examinations from October to November 2017. We wish them all the best in

their examinations.

Some simple guidelines for you:

1. Know your curriculum well. Start studying early. Give yourself enough time to truly

grasp the material, do more practice and review what you have learnt.

2. Don't leave your study until the last minute. To help sort out your time management,

set up a timetable for your study. Then organize your study accordingly.

3. Try and get rid of all distractions, and make sure you study in a comfortable

environment to maximize your learning.

4. Keep your hand-phone away while doing your revision and focus on your study

consistently.

5. Do past examination papers. One of the most effective ways to prepare for exams is to

practice past versions. This helps you get used to the format of the questions. If you

time yourself, it can also be a good practice to ensure that you spend the right amount

of time on each section.

6. Make sure you get everything ready well in advance of the exam.

7. During the exams, read over each question carefully before you start writing any

answers. Pace yourself. Work out the time available to answer all the questions. Do the

easy questions first to save time and build confidence. Leave time at the end to check

for spelling and grammatical errors, clarity of ideas etc. It is important that you make

full use of the time allocated.

Name tags can be ordered at the cost of RM10 for a set of six. Please place your order with the correct payment in an envelope with your child’s name and present class written clearly on the outside. Envelopes should be passed to the Administration Office. An official receipt will be issued upon receipt of payment.

Personal Values Celebration

This week we celebrate Mohammad Hanif Yassin Bin Mohammad Ali of Tingkatan 5 for his use of RESPECT.

Hanif has been consistently respectful to his classmates, school mates and staff of the school. He has been a good model for being kind, helpful, courteous and friendly to people of all age groups. He is cheerful and is well-liked by everyone who knows him.

Report on Axis FC Youth Cup The Axis Football Youth Cup entered its 3

rd edition this year seeing a total of 9 teams competing in the under-12

category and 7 teams playing in the under-10 category. Tunku Putra Football Club had two teams participating in both categories. This competition was played based on round robin league format for three consecutive Sundays, 15/10, 22/10 and ended on 29/10/2017. All four teams played well and have shown great determination, good sportsmanship and excellent teamwork. In the Under-10 category, Tunku Putra FC A emerged as the champion as they won all their matches (winning 6 out of 6 matches) and Tunku Putra B finished fifth as the league concluded. Meanwhile in the Under-12 category, Tunku Putra FC A which is a combination of TPS students and some local school students also emerged as the champion thus completing the double for the School. Team B (mostly 11 years old players) also did well finishing 6

th in the tournament.

Overall the three weekends were very fruitful and our students learned a lot from this tournament which the most important lesson learnt was that discipline and team work is the key to success. Tunku Putra FC would like to thank all players, coaches, parents and supporters for making this tournament a memorable one.

Tunku Putra A, champion for under-12 Tunku Putra FC A Champion for under-10

On Saturday 28th October 11 girls, ranging from 10 years old to 16 who form the majority of the Tunku Putra Dance Club took part in a showcase of dances, entitled

Stories in Motion. The showcase was part of the What About Kuching festival, that happened throughout October, in various guises. The performance evening was held at The Old Courthouse, near The Waterfront, to a packed house filled with an enthusiastic audience.

The Dance Club dancers had been meeting for one after school practice per week for four months, led and choreographed by Angela Williams, the recently joined Head of Creative and Performing Arts. “Dance is an excellent way for children and adults to express themselves, physically, creatively and emotionally” she explains. “Both performers and audience are able to make experiential connections with dance, and it is rapidly becoming a widely appreciated art form across the world.”

Off the back of a visit from the KL Shakespeare Players, who performed their own version of Macbeth to a majority of the school back in May, it was decided to do a dance with the theme about the tragic storyline of Lady Macbeth. Joann Tiong, a Year 11 who has studied dance previously, danced as Lady Macbeth, struggling with the guilt of helping to kill King Duncan. In the dance, she battles with her inner demons and eventually commits suicide. Aided by some scary looking makeup and contrasting costume, their performance was a huge success. Cathy Sinclair, one of the school’s IGCSE English teachers, who attended the performance evening, said “what a wonderful evening and our dancers performed with such energy and purpose. I’m so proud of them”. Stuart Fallows, Head of International Primary said “it’s so nice to see our students representing themselves and the school at such a fantastic event. They really have done extremely well.”

The Tunku Putra dancers performed alongside some other local groups, such as Danceversity and Soul Higher, and individuals who dance on the professional circuit, such as Derek Kho. This was such a valuable experience for our students, raising their personal expectations and building upon their performance craft, team working skills and self confidence.

The dance club, open to all students from Year 5 upwards, will begin again in January, when the new year begins, building upon the success of this first performance. The school would like to extend its congratulations to all those involved and give their thanks to the organisers of the event, who made this opportunity available to our students.
