Surah Al Muminoon ( المؤمنون سورة ) – Ayat 69 to 70
Ayah 69 – ( رفوا لم أم منكرون ۥ له فهم رسولهم يع ) (Or is it that they did not recognize their Messenger
(Muhammad SAW) so they deny him?)
It was last discussed that one of the reasons for not believing is lack of pondering of the Quran.
Another reason, since their forefathers didn’t have the deen they don’t bother to take it; but if it
was something concerning the duniya that their forefathers didn’t have, they will gladly take it,
subhan Allah. What else stopped them from believing?
( رفوا رسولهم notice :(Or is it that they did not recognize their Messenger (Muhammad SAW)) (أم لم يع
how Allah (swt) poses the questions very subtly, and He knows what is in their hearts. This is to
show that end of the day, they do not have a reason to disbelieve. They know the Prophet (pbuh),
they know his family, and they know his truthfulness – they know him very well. What do they know
about him?
o They know his lineage and the high status of his family amongst the tribes of Makkah.
o They know his character, he is honest and fulfills the trusts. And this is why Allah (swt) chose
Mohammed (pbuh) as a messenger, but they are denying it.
( فهم له ۥ منكرون) (so they deny him?):
o (فهم): this is referring to the disbelievers.
o ( له): refers to the Prophet (pbuh)
o ( منكرون): ‘deniers’ – you would normally reject something if you don’t know it or recognize
it, but in this case they know him and recognize him yet they still deny him, and this is
illogical, abnormal, subhan Allah. Some people are rejecting Islam because they do not know
about Islam, so it is unfair to reject something if you do not know about it – don’t reject
ignorantly. But when you know something, you accept it, and this is being fair to yourself. In
the case of the disbelievers of Quraish, they were not rejecting him ignorantly, but
arrogantly. Allah (swt) chose the Messenger (pbuh) because of his manners, not because he
was eloquent in speech or writing, the knowledge and eloquence comes later. To be a da’ee
to Allah is not about your knowledge first, but about your manners, subhan Allah. What is
another reason for their disbelief?
Ayah 70 – ( بهۦ يقولون أم ة حق جاءهم بل جن ثرهم بٱل حق وأڪ رهون لل ـ ك ) (Or say they: "There is madness in
him?" Nay, but he brought them the truth [i.e. "Tauhîd: Worshipping Allâh Alone in all
aspects The Qur'ân and the religion of Islâm,"] but most of them (the disbelievers) are averse
to the truth)
( ة you will find that the disbeliever’s talk is :("?Or say they: "There is madness in him) (أم يقولون بهۦ جن
the same all throughout, and you will find when there is something negative or a rumor, it spreads
quickly. Similarly, when you have one spoiled apple in a basket, it spreads to the rest –disbelief
spreads quickly – that is why Allah (swt) says most people do not believe, most people are
ungrateful, subhan Allah.
o ( يقولون): the disbelievers say

o ( ة ,it means covering of the brain, they are accusing the Prophet (pbuh) of madness :(جن
istaghfar Allah. They all know that he is not a madman, but he is rightly in his mind. Why do
they particularly decide to pick ‘madness’? If a person accuses someone of being mad, then
automatically no one will listen to him. And they will say there is no sense to what he is
saying. In general, the talk of a madman is not sane, he will speak falsehood and his talk is
silly. May Allah (swt) protect us. Ameen. Allah (swt) honored us with the mind, to filter what
is right and wrong – so why intentionally speak falsehood and non-sense talk because that
resembles madness, subhan Allah. What is their problem for not believing?
( حق Allah (swt) is telling them the problem is not :(Nay, but he brought them the truth) (بل جاءهم بٱل
with the message or the messenger, but the problem is themselves.
o ( بل): ‘Nay’ – meaning the matter is not as they say it is. Don’t speak negatively about a
person, because then they will believe they are like this. For example, don’t tell your
children ‘you are lazy, you are naughty’, etc. then they will be badly affected. Notice any
accusation of the Prophet (pbuh) Allah (swt) defends him in order to show the support. At
the end of the day, the Prophet (pbuh) is also human, and negative words can affect him,
and Allah (swt) gives him the console. The problem is not with the Prophet (pbuh), but
because he came to them with the truth.
o ( حق the truth is stable and firm, it does not change. Why is it stable? Because it is based :(ٱل
on truth, justness, and wisdom. Truth is the highest level of perfection, and the Prophet
(pbuh) has the highest level because of the knowledge that Allah (swt) gave him, his mind,
and his manners – the Prophet (pbuh) is the best of carriers of the truth. But what are they
like with the truth?
( رهون ـ حق ك ثرهم لل they hate the :(but most of them (the disbelievers) are averse to the truth) (وأڪ
truth, that is why they disbelieve. What makes you to believe? Because you love the truth, subhan
Allah. The problem is in them because of their desires. So they are not denying because they have
doubts, but they are denying because of ‘disbelief of hatred’ – they hate the truth. Similarly the
hypocrites are like this, they hate the truth. May Allah (swt) protect us. Ameen.
We ask Allah (swt) to increase us in faith and protect us from disbelief. Ameen.
