    OUR HISTORY

    I t i s said that Kenya i s perhaps the most stable of a l l the Afr icandeveloping nations that are ruled by Africans. The dramatic, yet effectivway in which Kenya underwent a great crisis, certainly demonstrates this.Sh h d k t h lf i d d f th B iti h i 196

I arrived in Nairobi on the 4th of February where I was met by HanySchaefer and son Dave at 3 a.m. at the International airport. Since myarrival we have been busy visiting people, dropping in on new and oldChris tians, speaking, having area missionaries over, driving into thebush to church and :^ther into the bush to visi t new people. We havebeen busy in the city presenting the work and have hopes of classestoward leadership starting soon. We have had two weeks of rich fellowshipwith our neighbor ing churches and have just completed a short conventionin which these Christians both old and-ne\T- toak an active part. As aresult several express an interest in working with the Christians in thea r e a *

We had a real treat when guests from Texas dropped in for a week andvisited the work - each taking an active part in the meetings. Sundayafternoon the meetings came to a close with a "chai pani" tea party - teais the commondrink in India and Africa. Let me extend a welcome to youfo r tea here a t any t ime.

Besides being busy in teaching, and getting ready for more classesg th g and ch rch people I ha e taken i t d t d

someone to go there and build a church and we are praying tha t t h i s wil l bewithin the year. By church building we mean an enlarged African hut madmud, sticks, grass and dung. We also plan to build a round hut, much l ikeone Bismas and I shared dtiring that vis i t , for the evangelist and missionarto stay i n when they go to the vi l lage .

A big day recently, among the missionaries in Kenya, was the get-togetwith the Growls from the Congo and a farewell to the Gene iandis family whofo r the Sta tes on May 14.

The Wadlow family, who came a year ago, are moving from Nairobi to the Cand have asked me to take t he i r home. I sa id as t h i s i s an answerprayer. Housing here is very di ff i cu l t to find and very expensive to rent .have been subletting an apartment from an English couple who returnedEngland fo r two months. This was ideal as my things had not yet arrivedAmerica and I was able to take over their home without worrying about havinsomewhere to cook or sleep. My things have arrived now and a ll in good cot ion and without any breakage or thef t , which i s rare . We have much to be thful for. One of the great things about moving into the Wadlow home is thathave been the storage center for sevez^ of our missionaries. A table mightlong-to one, a bed to another, and so on, bu t i t f i l l s th e house and makesf u r n i s h e d home f o r a w h i l e .

    Several people have written and asked i f we have any requests for prayerid Y d Si I h b h h h d i b ti d f th

So much has happened here in Kenya since writing to you in June, whicmade me realize how iiDportant i t is to establish an indigenous work amongp e o p l e .

The 11th of June shocked th e nation as an attempt was made to overthrowKenyatta administration. The coup fai led, resul ting in a large number of etions and a t ight lid put on all activities fo r two weeks. On the 20th ofall missions, schools, and businesses were asked to close down for a two
