Part 1

Read the poem below and answer the questions that follow.

The River

The River’s a wanderer

A nomad, a tramp,

He doesn’t choose one place

To set up his camp.

The River’s a winder,

Through valley and hill

He twists and he turns,

He just cannot be still.

The River’s a hoarder,

And he buries down deep

Those little treasures

That he wants to keep.

The River’s a baby,

He gurgles and hums,

And sounds like he’s happily

Sucking his thumbs.

Valerie Bloom

Read the text below and complete the following task.

Although a majority of people are now well aware of the benefits of exercise, yet many still don’t pursue it actively. This can be because of the busy schedule that all of us follow, but the truth is there are still many people who do not indulge in any form of activity because they are not completely aware of its importance.

Studies have clearly shown that exercise can help prevent excess weight gain. If you want to maintain weight loss, exercise regularly. The more intense the activity, the more calories you burn. Just spare about an hour for three times a week is enough for you to control your weight. Moreover, regular exercise can help you prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and diseases, including stroke, diabetes, certain types of cancer and arthritis.

A workout at the gymnasium or a brisk thirty-minute walk can stimulate various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. Exercise can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Many people have difficulty in falling asleep. Just try to exercise a few hours before bedtime. It will help you to fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep.

So, make time for regular exercise. Once you begin to exercise regularly, you will discover many more reasons why exercise is so important to improving the quality of your life, regardless of your age, sex or physical ability.

Write a summary on the importance of exercise.

Your summary must:

not be more than 60words, including the 10 words given below

be in continuous writing (not note form)

be written in one paragraph

Use your own words as far as possible without changing its original meaning.
