Heart failure: case reportA 64-year-old man developed heart failure during

treatment with pregabalin for paraesthesia. He initiallyreceived oral pregabalin 150mg, which was increased aweek later to 300 mg/day. Over the next 3 months, hedeveloped peripheral oedema and gained weight. Despitepregabalin withdrawal, he was subsequently hospitalisedunconscious, with wheezing, lip cyanosis and orthopnoea.Chest X-ray revealed cardiomegaly with a butterfly shadow,suggesting congestive heart failure and pulmonaryoedema. By the next day, he had responded well to oxygenand furosemide. His heart failure and oedema improvedand his weight gain resolved over 7 days.
