To replace the turbine control and electrical system that has become obsolete.

panels are verified based on existing

drawing and cable schedule.

ensure the correct connection as in

new drawing.

5. Cold commissioning is done by

giving the input from HMI to see the

relay function as expected.

1. Able to identify the tools used during dismantling and installing work.

2. Learn read the cores terminal, tagging, drawing.

3. Learn how to trace the cables with no tagging previously using

multimeter

START-UP FREQUENCY CONVERTER (SFC)

Function: Assist generator to accelerate the gas turbine set up to its operating speed. (3000 rpm)

Electrical auxiliary supply provide start-up energy from the grid.

Electrical generator operate as synchronous motor.

The converter shut down at 70% of the rated speed, gas turbine operates on its own. (2100 rpm)

STATIC EXCITATION EQUIPMENT (SEE)

Function: provides controlled DC-current and DC-voltage to the generator rotor winding in order to control the output voltage to the grid.

Generation of the magnetic field in rotor

Control of generator voltages to be according to set value during synchronization with the grid.

There are cables with no tagging.

COLD & HOT COMMISSIONING:

1. Try to operate the gas turbine with No-Load & Full-Load test.

2. Combustion in combustion chamber is tested using fuel gas and fuel oil.

3. There are troubleshooting process done before the turbine can reach its

operating speed (3000 rpm).

1. First firing: the speed of the gas turbine is increasing very slow, there is a time limit where the SFC will be off and the gas turbine trip automatically.

1. No-Load Test: The isolator of generator circuit breaker is in open condition.

2. Full-Load Test: The isolator is closed and the generator circuit breaker is

synchronized and connected to the grid.

CONCLUSION:

1. The project is almost accomplish where the commissioning phase is now

towards the end.

2. The individual objectives are almost achievable :

Familiarized with the basic concept of power plant operation.

Learn about the theory and electrical design of Synchronization / Generator

Protection.

Learn about the basic theory of start-up and excitation system of a gas turbine.

Experience and assist the erection & commissioning works at site.

Implement Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) practices in the workplace.

3. Recommendation

Siemens:

More hands on task and training activities in the office and also at the project site.

UTP:

Provide a better and practical way of delivering the responsibility of the host company supervisor. (Ex: Briefing by UTP supervisor during 1st visit about the guideline – Internship Guideline 9.1.1)

Project:

Better enforcement of HSE practice at site.Prepare more power plant spare part in case of any emergency.
