Teaching experiences:

1. I taught the undergraduates in Islamic studies at Faculty of Islamic Studies, UKM from 1980 to 1982.

2. After I returned home from McGill University in late 1986, I have resumed teaching the undergraduates in Islamic studies at Faculty of Islamic Studies, UKM.

3. Among the undergraduate courses which I have lectured and conducted tutorial are Islamic theology, Islamic mysticism and ethics, Muslim speculative theology or the Kalam, Mantiq (Logic) and Muslim theological schools and groups and their doctrines such as the Kharijites, Shi`ites, Murjiites, Jabarites, Qadarites, Sunnites, Mu`tazilites, Ismailites and Zaidites.

4. I have also conducted the graduate courses namely the Muslim sects and Muslim contemporary thought. The Muslim sects include the sects declared out of being Muslims such as the Batinis, the Babis, the Qadianis or Ahmadis. Muslim contemporary thought includes the Muslim trends such as Muslim modernists, conservatives, liberals, and fundamentalists. Publications

D. Field Researches

1. I led the research team of four researchers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1993 and 1994. The research was sponsored by the Islamic Education Division, Ministry of Education. The title of the research was “Keberkesanan Pelaksanaan Aliran Agama Di Sekolah Menengah Biasa” (The Effectiveness of the Implementation of the Islamic Religious Stream at the Ordinary Secondary Schools). The research report was submitted to the sponsor in July 1994.

The research team consisted of Prof. Dr. Mohammad Haji Yusuf (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences), Associate Prof. Dr. Ismail Mat (Faculty of Islamic Studies), and Mr. Ghazali haji Abdul Wahab (Faculty of Islamic Studies).

2. I headed the research team of five researchers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1995 and 1996. The research was sponsored by the Islamic Education and Moral Division, Ministry of Education. The title of the research was “Pendidikan Islam Di Sekolah Kebangsaan dan Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan” (The Islamic Education at the National Schools and the National Primary Schools). The research report was submitted to the sponsor in October 1996.

The research team consisted of Associate Prof. Dr. Ariffin Haji Zainal (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences), Associate Prof. Dr. Muda@Ismail Ab. Rahman (Faculty of Islamic Studies), Dr. Mudasir Rosder (Faculty of Islamic Studies), and Dr. Musa Daia (Faculty of Education).

3. I was the leader of the research team of four researchers from the Department of Theology and Philosophy in 1999 and 2000. The research was funded by the National University of Malaysia. The title of the research was “Murtad di Malaysia” (Apostasy in Malaysia).

The research team consisted of Associate Prof. Dr. Mohamed Asin Dollah, Mr. Ahmad Sunawari Long and Mr. Kamarudin Salleh (all from the Department of Theology and Philosophy, Faculty of Islamic Studies).
