GAMES•Besides playing games on
the PC, spend time with your siblings playing scrabble to improve your vocabulary, charade (you miming the word or phrase and others guess what the word/phrase is).
•Pick up a Word Puzzle book (less than RM10.00) or a crossword puzzle and attempt to look for the answers.
TUITION•Enrol in an English Language
tuition class (with friends) during the holidays (the last option recommended) to improve your writing and overall English Language performance.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS ACTIVITIES The end of year holidays is around the corner. Here are some suggestions that you could suggest to your
students on how they can fill their holidays in a meaningful way i.e. improving their English Language. These suggestions are by no means exhaustive, you may have other ideas to add on to the list.
WRITING•Read sample essays (from revision books/ websites) –
take note of phrases/idioms/vocabulary
that you are not familiar. Jot them down. Use them in your
sentences.•Write out essay that you have
read on your own.•Create your own vocabulary
notebook .•Make sure you read different
types of essays – narrative, descriptive, factual, expository.
•Write what you have done for the day in a diary.
READING FOR LEISURE•Teen novels such as The Harry
Potter series, Chicken for the Soul series, Diary of a Wimpy
Kid series, Percy Jackson series, The Maze Runner series, The Hunger Games series, Heroes
of Olympus series are available at either Popular Book Stores
or MPH.•Read magazines such as Seventeen (girls would love
this!), Mad (Humour mag.) or any football mags for boys.
BOOK FAIRS •A family excursion to Book
Fairs/Sales – watch out for book sales during the school
holidays by Popular Book stores, MPH and Big Bad Wolf (9-19 Dec 2016, at MIECC The
Mines) across the country. More discounts are given if you become a member of
these bookstores.
