Remember them well: The wealth of a man will not diminish by Sadaqa (charity),Allah augments the honour of a man who endures an oppression patiently; and he who opens a gate of begging, Allahopens a gate of poverty for him (or he said a word similar to it)." He "# also said, "Remember well what I am going totell you: There are four kinds of people in the world. One upon whom Allah has bestowed wealth and knowledgeconsequently he fears his Rabb in respect to them, joins the ties of kinship and acknowledges the rights of Allah on him(and fulfills them); this type will have the best position (in Paradise). One upon whom Allah has conferred knowledge but no wealth and he is sincere in his intention and says: 'Had Ipossessed wealth, I would have acted like so-and-so.' If his intention is thus, his reward is the same as that of the other.

One to whom Allah has given wealth but no knowledge and he squanders his wealth ignorantly, does not fear Allah inrespect to it, does not discharge the obligations of kinship nor does he acknowledge the right of Allah. Such a personwill be in the worst position (in the Hereafter). One upon whom Allah has bestowed neither wealth nor knowledge and he says: 'Had I possessed wealth, I wouldhave acted like so-and-so (i.e., he would squander his wealth).' If this is his intention then both will be equal in sin."(Tirmidhi: Hasan Sahih)

Abu Hurairah (ra) reported, I heard the Messenger of Allah "# saying, "The case of a miserly man and a generous manwho gives in charity is similar to that of two persons who are clad in armour from their chests upwards to their collarbone. When the generous man gives in charity, his armour expands to such an extent that it covers his fingertips andtoes, so much so that his foot prints are no longer remain. However since the miser does not wish to spend anything,,every ring of his armour sticks to its place. He attempts to loosen it but it does not expand.'" (Bukhari and Muslim)And EE]r$DD means armour. Its meaning is that whenever a person spends, the armour expands and lengthens until ittrails behind his back covering his feet, the traces of his walking and footprints.

camels-or perhaps he said cattle, (for Ishaq was uncertain, but either the leper or the bald man said camels and the othersaid cattle). He was given a ten month pregnent she-camel and the angel said, 'May Allah bless you in your wealth'. Theangel then went to the bald man and asked him what he would like best, and he replied, 'Good hair, and to be free ofthat which makes me loathsome to people.' Thereupon he touched him and it departed from him and he was givengood hair. The angel then asked what property he would like best and he replied that he would like cattle. So he wasgiven a pregnant cow, and the angel said,'May Allah bless you in your wealth.' He then went to the blind man andasked him what he would like best, and he replied, 'That Allah should restore my sight to me so that I may see people.'Thereupon he stroked him and Allah restored his sight to him. The angel then asked what property he would like bestand he replied that he would like sheep, so he was given a pregnant ewe. Flocks and herds were produced for the three

men, the first owning a valley full of camels, the second a valley full of cattle, and the third a valley full of sheep. Thenthe angel came to the one who had been a leper in the form and appearance of a leper and said, 'I am a poor man whoseresources are exhausted in my journey. My only means of arriving at my destination are dependent on Allah and thenon you, so I ask you by He who gave you the good colour, the good skin and the property for a camel by which I mayreach the end of my journey.' But he replied, 'I have many dues to pay.' The angel then said, 'I seem to recognize you. Were you not the leper whom people found loathsome, and a poor man to whom Allah gave property?' He replied, 'Ibecame heir to this property as one great in dignity from one great in dignity.' Then the angel said, 'If you are lying, may Allah return you to your former condition.' He went to the one who had been bald in the form of a bald man andsaid the same as he had said to the other and received a similar reply, so he said, 'If you are lying, may Allah return youto your former condition.' He then went to the one who had been blind in the form and appearance of a blind man andsaid, 'I am a poor man and a traveler whose resources are exhausted in my journey, and my only means of arriving atmy destination are dependent on Allah and then on you, so I ask you by Him who restored your sight to you for asheep by which I may reach the end of my journey.' He replied, 'I had been blind and Allah restored my sight to me, so

take what you wish and leave what you wish. I swear by Allah that I shall not importune you today for anything youtake, as I give it for Allah's sake.' The angel said, 'Keep your property, for you have all simply been put to a test. AndAllah is pleased with you and displeased with your two companions.'" (Bukhari and Muslim)
