2 9 DEC 2016RUBBERKUALA LUMPURThe Malaysian rubber market dosed mostly higher boosted by a weakening ringgit against the US dollar, a dealer said.

The ringgit is still hovering around 4.48 against the greenback at noon as the rise in US bond yields helped support the greenback.

“Local rubber was more attractive to international traders as a result of the weaker ringgit,” the dealer said.

He said the higher local rubber prices were also aided by the overnight gain in benchmark oil prices.

However, the gains were capped by the fall in rubber futures on the benchmark Tokyo Commodity Exchange on profit-taking as rubber prices on the Shanghai Futures Exchange lost steam, he added.

At noon, the Malaysian Rubber Boards official physical price for tyre-grade SMR 20 rose 32 sen to856.0 sen a kg while latex-in-bulk gained 1.5 sen to642.0 sen a kg.

The unofficial closing price at 5 pm for tyre-grade SMR 20 fell six sen to 844 sen a kg while latex-in- bulk added five sen to 643.0 sen a kg. - BernamaSMR PRICES FROM MR8 IN SEN A KILO: DEC 28 ___________

RUBBER-TOCOM ends slightly lower on profit-booking

284 words28 December 201616:20Reuters NewsLBAEnglishCopyright 2016 Thomson Reuters. All Rights Reserved.TOKYO, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Benchmark Tokyo rubber futures gave up early gains to close slightly lower onWednesday as investors took profits after Shanghai lost steam.

The Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) rubber contract for June delivery <0#2JRU:> finished 0.8 yen, or0.3 percent, lower at 256.4 yen ($2.18) per kg after rising to a high of 266.4 yen earlier in the session.

"The TOCOM pared earlier gains as Shanghai lost ground," said Hiroyuki Kikukawa, general manager ofresearch at Nissan Securities.

The most-active rubber contract on the Shanghai futures exchange for May delivery surged overnight to18,345 yuan ($2,637.48) per tonne, but surrendered some gains during day trading on profit-taking, to finishup 115 yuan at 17,705 yuan.

"The Tokyo market will likely stay focus on Shanghai direction and the yen's move for the rest of the week,"he said, adding prices might face strong selling pressure next year as the recent rally was too sharp.

The TOCOM benchmark has risen more than 50 percent since the end of September.

The U.S. dollar rose 0.2 percent against the yen to 117.67, adding to its gains of nearly 0.5 percent onTuesday in the wake of data showing U.S. consumer confidence hit a 15-year peak in December.

The front-month rubber contract on Singapore's SICOM exchange for January delivery last traded at 184.0U.S. cents per kg, down 2.5 cents. ($1 = 117.5300 yen) ($1 = 6.9555 Chinese yuan) (Reporting by YukaObayashi; Editing by Subhranshu Sahu)
