1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 What is an Entrepreneurship?
Entrepreneurship is the act and art of being an entrepreneur or on who undertakes
innovations or introducing new things, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform
innovations into economic goods. It is ranged in scale from solo projects to major undertakings
creating more job opportunities. Entrepreneurial activities are substantially different depending
on the type of organization and creativity involved. Conceptually and in practice,
entrepreneurship is the professional application of knowledge, skills and competencies and
monetizing a new idea.
According to a study, there are seven different conceptions of entrepreneurship, discussing
each and how they connect entrepreneurship with the firm. It concludes that a judgment
approach to entrepreneurship is the most fitting and sound approach to the subject. The
following is the summarized of the seven approaches:
I. Entrepreneurship as Small-Business Management
In this approach, entrepreneurship is strictly linked with firms that qualify as small
businesses. "It deems 'entrepreneurial' virtually all aspects of small or new business
management, while excluding the identical tasks when performed within a large or
established business." This structural approach to entrepreneurship is one of the weakest
yet still holds influence among colleges and universities today.
II. Entrepreneurship as Imagination or Creativity
When defined by personal, psychological characteristics such as imagination and creativity,
entrepreneurship becomes "a specialized activity that some individuals are particularly well-
equipped to perform." Using this conception, entrepreneurship has no observable
connection to the theory of the firm. The services of imaginative or creative people could be
purchased when necessary by the firm.

III. Entrepreneurship as Innovation
In this conception, entrepreneurship is only demonstrated within the firm when it introduces
new products, processes, or strategies. The regular day-to-day operation of the firm has
nothing to do with entrepreneurship. The firm's nature and structure has no effect on the
level of entrepreneurship. Thus the connection between entrepreneur and firm is weak.
IV. Entrepreneurship as Alertness to Opportunities
According to the conception, entrepreneurs only need to be aware of profit opportunities.
They do not need to own assets. Since they are merely exercising privileged knowledge,
they are neither facing uncertainty nor necessarily bearing any risk. Entrepreneurs either
earn profits or break even, but it is unclear how they suffer losses. In this conception,
entrepreneurs do not need a firm to be entrepreneurs.
V. Entrepreneurship as the Ability to Adjust
This approach assumes that innovation is occurring in the economy and measures
entrepreneurship by how people adjust to large changes in the economy. Entrepreneurship
is defined as "the ability to reallocate one's resources in response to changing
circumstances." By this conception, it is not only implied but overtly asserted that
entrepreneurship could simply be purchased by firm management. Management could
purchase the services of entrepreneurs during times of great change. Beyond that, there is
no real connection between the entrepreneur and the firm.

VI. Entrepreneurship as Charismatic Leadership
Entrepreneurship is defined as "the ability to articulate a plan, a set of rules, or a broader
vision, and impose it on others." Successful entrepreneurs must be excellent
communicators and generate a following.
VII. Entrepreneurship as Judgment
Entrepreneurship is defined as "judgmental decision-making under conditions of
uncertainty." Judgment is defined as "decisive action about the deployment of economic
resources when outcomes cannot be predicted according to known probabilities." In this
conception, the entrepreneur is an active, creative agent. He is not passively identifying
opportunities that he is aware of, but rather creating new opportunities by his judgment.
Decision-making under uncertainty is the qualifying function of entrepreneurship whether it
involves imagination, creativity, and leadership or not.
1.2 Who is the Entrepreneur?
An entrepreneur is an individual who accepts some sort of risk usually financial in the pursuit of
new ventures. The word can apply to any person organizing a new project or opportunity,
though it is most often used in a business context. A person in this role is often characterized as
innovative, independent, optimistic, creative, and hard-working.

1.2.1 Creative Destruction
In some circles, entrepreneurs are described as "creative destructionists" of products
and services. Although they may reinvigorate an existing industry by using new methods,
whether of production, organization, or structure, they also work to tear down the existing
companies and ways of doing business by developing entirely new products or services that
make older variations obsolete or irrelevant. An example of this is the creation of the
automobile, which slowly made most parts of the horse-drawn carriage industry obsolete.
1.2.2 Risk
Risk is perhaps the primary characteristic of entrepreneurship. This does not necessarily
mean that the entrepreneur has an infinite tolerance for risk; instead, it means that the
successful entrepreneur is able to determine how much risk is appropriate for a particular
endeavor. He or she must accept enough risk to innovate and create, but not so much that the
business or activity is not profitable.
Financial risk is the most common sort of risk entrepreneurs’ face. They often have to
contribute their own money as well as that of other parties to a particular project. Failure may
cost not only their own livelihood and savings, but that of other investors too. If the venture is
successful, however, the financial rewards may be great.
Other types of risk exist as well. Entrepreneurs may face social risk if their innovations
challenge societal norms, or they may face psychological risk as their hard work affects their or
their families' peace of mind. Many find that the independence, notoriety, and feeling of
contributing something valuable to society that often come with being an entrepreneur outweigh
these dangers — though these rewards are seldom immediately apparent.

1.3 Case Study
Due to the increasing significance and visible impact of entrepreneurship in employment
generation and wealth-creation, this study has been undertaken to study the path or tracks of
the successful entrepreneurs specifically in Malaysia. 7- Approach model for the creation of
successful micro-enterprises is referred throughout this study.
Listed below are the 7- approaches:

Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours had been chosen for the case study. The methodology
adopted in preparing this report is based on interviewing and site-visiting the selected
entrepreneur. The entrepreneur is interviewed according to the guidelines provided in
completing this project. The project is then progresses by analyzing the entrepreneur
accordingly with the 7-Approaches model in transforming into successful micro enterprise. All
relevant references are collected from the entrepreneur to assist in completing this project.

2.0 BACKGROUND
The team selected Darul Mubarak as the Engineering, Economics and Entrepreneurship
project case study. Darul Mubarak which is also known as Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours
Sdn. Bhd. is situated at Taman Maju, Seri Iskandar,Perak. This company is established on 1st
September 2005. Darul Mubarak then widened their branches in Ipoh (Perak), Kajang(Selangor)
and Marang(Terengganu).
Darul Mubarak is an expert in managing and providing tourism services. They are also
professional in dealing with business which involve trips and vacations in the country as well as
abroad. Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn. Bhd. is a company that registered under the
Companies Act 1965 and obtained approval from the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.
On the early stage of operation, Darul Mubarak served as Wasilah or instructor for
Muslim citizens in performing Umrah and Hajj worship in Mecca. Then, they expand their
business towards travel and tourism to all over the world professionally and ethically. Their
customers consist from all walks of life, position, profession as well as international customers.
With a good track record and extensive business ties, Darul Mubarak’s focus and priority
is to give best services to their customers. They are guiding customers who are less experience
in travelling, provides opportunities for low-income groups to perform Umrah and Hajj which also
includes courses for the pilgrims.

Darul Mubarak’s vision is to become the best tourism management agencies in
Malaysia. Their mission is to provide high level of the services in travelling with an affordable
price as well as to facilitate for the customers satisfaction. They are also provides preferential
treatment to ease customers’ Hajj or Umrah or travel in comfort without thinking of traveling or
accommodation problems.
The success of the travel agency Darul Mubarak is proved by the performance of the
company since it began the operations. Furthermore, every package they offer not only
accompanied by the local people but also joined by customers from outside the area and
foreigners as well. In addition, Darul Mubarak also has many partners and sales representatives
in and outside the country.

3.0 THE 7 – APPROACH MODEL FOR THE CREATION OF SUCCESSFUL MICRO-ENTERPRISES (MEs)
3.1 Setting out Clear Objectives
Having a clear vision, mission and objectives is the most basic principle in organization
or a company in order to make the business run smoothly and successfully. It is the life's blood
of the business plan and serves to aim the company towards the goals they are shooting for and
hopefully let them attain them. Business objectives are like an arrow pointing towards a goal.
In early stage of business, Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd focused more on
Muslim package for Umrah. During that time, they are helping the customer in all the things
regarding Umrah such as accommodation, transportation and also visa.
As their vision for the company is to be the best travel and tours agency in Malaysia.
While their mission are to provide the highest level of service in travel and Muslim tourism at a
reasonable cost with the aim to provide convenience and satisfaction to customers, at the same
time provide opportunities for customers to conduct worship and travel with confidence.
Financial based objectives are the steps on how to make the company turn toward
profitability. All companies target is to maximize profit while keeping operation cost at lowest as
possible. Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd also have objective to achieve positive cash
flow while at the same time expanding itself to compete with bigger competitors.
On a marketing level, Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd aim to have repeat
business, repeating customers to ensure increasing cash flow. To further enhance profitability,
they aim to attract group of customers. Therefore, they are able to sell tickets faster and achieve
profit faster.
On the other hand, they manage to increase their new customers more than 27% every
year by targeting group of customers to travel with them. Currently, simply Darul Mubarak
Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd manage to penetrate East Malaysia market and looking forward to
penetrate the neighboring countries market soon.

3.2 Attract and Please Customers
Attracting customers has always been a challenge for every business. Each companies
have their own or similar tactics to attract customers. It is vital to attract new customers and
keep existing clients on a consistent basis or else they will be out of business sooner than they
expected. Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd have their own way to attract new
customers and keep existing clients.
Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd provide a lot of package for travel and good
services which can be affordable for everyone. Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd umrah
package is the most well known because they provide the best service such as 7 times of
umrah, free bag, visit the most important place at Mecca, guided by Ustaz all the time and etc.
Other than that, Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd also provide a leisure packages,
such as go to Indonesia, Cairo, Turkey, China, and etc.
Another attempt to attract customers, Umrah package that been provided by Darul
Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn bhd provided is among the cheapest in the market, they always
provide competitive price and much cheaper than other companies. The price paid for Umrah
covers visas, nametag, airline tickets, hotel accommodation, transportation and food in Mecca
and Medina.
Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd started at Perak in 2005 with single branch
and now they already have 3 branches, located at Ipoh,Perak, Kajang,Selangor, and another 1
located at Kemaman,Terengganu.
Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd also give promotion price that almost cut 7%
from original price. This promotion is given 3 times out of 10 for Umrah packages. While for
leisure packages, they cut almost 9% from original price for certain date. The promotion does
not stop there because if the customers are going with large number of group, they will give
more discount until the customers is satisfied with the price that provided by them.

3.2.1 Satisfaction
Company in tourism sector must be ready to face tough challenge to keep their
customers loyal to their company. Lot of brainstorming needs to be done frequently on how to
meet customer’s satisfaction.
The owner of this company believes that, certain things are inherently important when it
comes to keeping customers happy. Memorable experience when customers travelling with
them and good customer service are thing that will make their customers coming back to travel
with them again.
Employees are very significant in every company. Without employees, there will be no
customers and no business. For this company, they also put their employees as at the first
place. They will ensure that the employees work hard and will give away any bonus or free
travelling package for their extra effort. So, this will make sure the employees always give their
best to treat the customers in the most comforting ways.
3.2.2 Method of Advertisement
There are several of ways Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd promote their
packages. Such as in Sri Iskandar, they use big banner to inform people to every promotion
they made. Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd also gave brochures to every houses
near their branches.
Darul Mubarak Travel and Tour has taken few strategies for the preparation of going
global. This is to ensure that they have the competitive advantage against the other travel
agency companies in Malaysia. On top of that, the strategy of going global is also being
implemented to increase profits. They launched a Website and Blogspot in order to promote
their packages to the community around Malaysia. Besides, they also have set up an account in
Facebook. In this way, they can inform customer about the latest promotion and also get the
feedback from customer immediately.

3.3 Keep the Customers and Make Them Stay
Keeping customers happy make good business sense but it is not always easy. The
ability to keep the customers is the most important indicator of customers’ satisfaction. One of
the ways to keep in touch and remind stakeholders of their commitment to customers’
satisfaction are through promotional tag line or brand mantra on satisfaction for example “Going
beyond expectations”, “We deliver consistently to your satisfaction”, “exceeding expectations”
and so on. Consistently pursuing and improving on customers’ satisfaction will definitely keep
them loyal and thus enhancing sustainability for the enterprise.
It is very important for them to keep their customers satisfied with their packages and
services. These are the efforts to make the customers loyal to them. So for Darul Mubarak
Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd, they always brainstorm on how to make the packages more
interesting and different from other companies to ensure the customers will always choose to
travel with them. Other than that, it is necessary for them to improve their services so that the
customers will not complaint about services been provided.
Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd have they own way to keep their customers to
stay with them; they will send a private message about every promotion that they made through
‘Short Message Service’ to customers hand phone. This way may look like that they are
interrupting customers’ privacy. Somehow, by this ways almost 80% of Darul Mubarak Travel
and Tours Sdn Bhd customers still keep in touch with them and using their packages to travel.
Sales activities also play an important role for every company not only to earn profit but
also to attract and keep the customers, make them stay loyal to the company. Darul Mubarak
Sdn gives rewarding royalty by giving discount to their frequent customers whenever they
purchased the package from them. This is one of the ways how Darul Mubarak Sdn Bhd attracts
the customers and at the same time maintains the customers’ loyalty to them.

A proof rather than promised commitment will put the company ahead of the competition.
3.4 Managing Customers and Business Growth
Customers are the backbones in determining whether the business is successful or not.
It is very important for a company to have strategies in managing their customer. In business,
customers are the lifeline of a business. Once a customer base is established, the next move is
to expand from single item transactions to bulk order type business to ensure maximum profit.
Darul Mubarak Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd do not stand alone in this business, because
to ensure the flight that been booking will not be canceled due to lack or little in number of
customer, they came out to be partner with Andalusia Travel and Tours. In this way, no matter if
the package did not gain too many responses, they still manage to go on without cancelling the
date that customers want. The customer priority always had been their first priority, without
making the customers down.
Business is a two way street. One must buy while the other must sell. Sometimes a
business deals whereby a quid pro-quo situation would occur. For example, Darul Mubarak
Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd would help Andalusia Travel and Tours to fill the number of
customers that needed by them, in return Andalusia Travel and Tours help them back by
helping to fill the number of customers needed by them. Both would gain advantages from
business deal. Ultimately they would form a friendly business partnership and would further
enhance both companies’ business.
Growth in business is one of the ways to measure success in entrepreneurship. It
requires high determination to maintain the pace to achieve success. The growth of a business
is closely related with capital availability and in order to maintain the availability of the capital,

an important item that will be useful to be used by customers when they choose to take Umrah

packages just to ensure the customers always choose to travel with them. They will not stop in
growing their business until they achieve the vision and mission of the company.
3.5 Outcompete Rivals and Compete Successfully
In today’s world, competition is always good for a growing business. It lets a company
benchmarks itself in the market environment. The marketing concept of building an organization
around the profitable satisfaction of customer needs has helps Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours to
achieve high growth and moderately competitive market. Their competitions in local area are
other travel agencies including government agency such as Tabung Haji. Darul Mubarak Travel
& Tours had been introducing a few packages on travelling around the world especially in
Islamic country. Being a private service company, Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours could not
compete on price due to the subsidies that Tabung Haji and other government agency get, but
they try to persuade promotion strategy by promoting their services by using blogs, Facebook,
flyers and also online advertisement.
Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd provides variety of packages and places to
travel than most of travel agencies here locally. Besides, they also hold the principle that to be
successful, they must always consider their competitors as well as its actual and potential
customers. In the same time, they carefully analyze and gather the information on competitor’s
strategy and programs. The owner of Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours always has unique
technique and ways to attract customers on choosing their services such as open booth at any
festival.
Moreover, most of travel agencies have to face the toughest competition ever. To win
the marketplace, the agency must become an expert not just in managing services but also
managing customer’s relationships in the face determined competition. Thus, Darul Mubarak
Travel & Tours have identified and assessed their competitors and did the competitive

In times of tough competition, Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours would not lower the prices
of packages because they are confident that the customers would not regret in choosing their
services. Overall, their services provided can make them outcompete their rivals and they are
not afraid for a little competition.
3.6 Conduct Proper System And Operations
Mr. Muhammad Ismi, the owner of Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours has systematically
outlined the procedure in running the business. Starting from new idea to promote and attract
the customers, suggesting a suitable package to customers and then give a satisfactory
treatment. Each procedure has been carefully and systematically outlined so that the
commercialization of their services going well and smooth. Other than that, such an outlined
must be followed because it is a guide to avoid any mistakes and also dissatisfaction for
customer.
It’s operation started by receiving the date from the customer. As company’s principle,
“Customers First”, they will suggest a suitable package and also describe the services that they
provided to the customer. At the same time, they will offer the promotion price and also explain
all the benefits that the customers will get if they choose their services. From that, all questions
and enquiries will be clear. Then, customer needs to pay RM500 as a deposit. Full payment
only can be done at the time of travel and after that any update will be sent directly to customer
through the short messaging services. This will facilitate customer efficiently.
A manager of a company must possess strong leadership skills so that he or she can
organize meeting, planning and also must be able to handle their staff and customers. Mr.
Muhammad Ismi has taken an approach to handle problems and benefactions of his workers.
Once in a week, Mr. Muhammad Ismi will have a weekly meeting with his workers and agents in
the company. He will ask each of the workers whether they have any problems or issued that
need to be discussed. As an owner, he takes into consideration of all the problems and

3.7 Evaluation and Corrective Actions
Since there are many other agencies with the same business background, Darul Mubarak
Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd has an efficient way to ensure consistent performance. They realize
that it is always a challenge to gain customer’s trust in order to expend their market. What
differs between each company is that how they sustain the customers interested in their
services. Basically, customer’s interest keeps changing, so, in order to sustain customer’s trust,
Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours has created an evaluation. From that, they will take a few
corrective actions.
I. The customerEvaluation:
Darul Mubarak Travel & Tour will get feedback from customer on their services. They will
evaluate on what actually need and expect from their services. They will try to get
information on the interest of the customer, the advantages and disadvantages of their
services, and the weakness of their services compared to other agencies.
Corrective action:
They will provide what customers actually need from their services. With that, Darul
Mubarak Travel & Tour will tackle the problem, thus build interest and trust from their
customer. For example, some customer has their own ideas for the lodging on their
travel’s place, thus Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours will sustain the customer’s decision
but the price is according to the standard value.

Market level of travel and tour industry can change. Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours will
always monitor the market to prepare for any changes. For example, during Haj season,
the demand of the travel will increase especially Mecca.
Corrective Action:
Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours will provide, increase and decrease their service on
certain part, based on the market demand. For example, if the demand on travel to
Mecca is higher during Haj season, they will focus on the service at that place by
increasing maximum number of people to go there, but in the same time, decrease the
number of sit to go other places.
III. Services PricesEvaluation:
Providing the right price is one of the factors to attract customers. By increasing the price
even for a little, it can cause the customer to stop choosing the services. Actually, the
price of the services, mainly accommodation and meal expenses, are determined by the
market, and not under Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours’s control. The price does not
change gradually because it will affect the customer.
Corrective Action:
Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours will cooperate with more than one hotel and catering
company. From that, they can compare all of them and choose the best hotel that can
provide the lowest price range with good qualities, while the catering supply meals that
they can offer cheaper compare to others.
IV. The workers Evaluation:
To sustain the perfect and efficient services, workers are the important parameter
because all Darul Mubarak services are depending on hand-work. How they work and
their idea are taken into account in communicate and maintain the relationship to

customers. This can be the main thing to attract more customers’ interest. So, Darul
Mubarak Travel & Tours will always take care and evaluate their workers based on
customer feedbacks, the creativity and their discipline when working.
Corrective Action:
Darul Mubarak Travel & Tour will give bonus to their worker if the worker shows good
performances and can attract more customers. If the worker shows low performance, the
manager of Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours will arrange a meeting with the worker and
give advice and try to solve what exactly affect the performance of the worker.
Therefore, by combining both evaluation and correction action, Darul Mubarak can solve
the problem regarding their company either internal or external problem. By doing this, they
will improve their management and attract more customers, thus increase the profitability of
the company.

4.1 Enhance the Promotion and Advertisements
Darul Mubarak should use the advantage of promotion to attract more customers. From
our observation, we could only find few banners around Taman Maju. The agency needs to
promote their agency by advertising more banners around Perak Tengah for example Taman
Maju, Bota and Parit. Moreover, Darul Mubarak should participate in travel exhibitions for
example the Matta Fair. This way, the agency will be more known to people. Besides that, the
agency will be competing with other famous travel agencies and eventually will improve their
management and promotion.
4.2 Add More Places to Travel
Currently, the packages that the agency provides are mostly around Asia and Middle-
East. Darul Mubarak should add more places and increase their mobility to places such as
Europe. Therefore, there will be more choices of locations that the customers can choose.
Moreover, with more locations of packages, the more it will attract the customers.
4.3 Divide the Management Based on Packages
Now, the agency is more focused to Umrah and Haji packages. However, Darul
Mubarak does provide other places such as Jakarta, Korea and Egypt but then with lower focus.
It is better if they divide their management into two focuses which one of it is on Umrah and Haji
packages only and the other one is only for packages for leisure. Therefore, they can improve
their packages by adding more places to visit, provide better hospitality during the journey and
create more promotions for the customers to enjoy.

4.4 Add More Branches around Malaysia
Branching is one of the keys for promoting the agency into a large business. At some
point, higher revenues will be produced if the business is going well. Thus, the profits can be
injected back in to the business by opening branches in strategic areas. Currently, the branches
that Darul Mubarak have is at Taman Maju, Ipoh, Selangor and Terengganu. Darul Mubarak
should expand by opening branches at the northern southern regions such as Johor and Kedah.
Moreover, they should also open their branch at Sabah and Sarawak. By doing so, Darul
Mubarak can receive more customers around Malaysia. Besides that, the agency can also
provide their services at different parts of Malaysia.
4.5 Reward the Loyal Customers
There are some loyal customers coming back to Darul Mubarak to travel. However, the
loyal customers did not receive any rewards for their loyalty. For example, Darul Mubarak can
offer their customers by giving them the opportunity to travel free-of-charge if they manage to
assemble 10 customers. This way, both of the customer as well as Darul Mubarak will get
benefits. The agency can also promote and expand their network to more people. Other than
that, Darul Mubarak can also reward their customers with discounts on packages.

5.0 CONCLUSION
Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours Sdn. Bhd. adapts entirely the 7 approaches model which
will ensure them to be successful in their business. These essential elements if continuously
applied in their business management can help them in developing themselves to the next level
in this competitive environment. It is because, 7 approaches model provides clear methods
which involve with the objectives, marketing strategies, promoting planning and sustainability
method in order to maintain the business.
Darul Mubarak’s improvement can be seen when they were expanding their branches to
other state such as Selangor and Terengganu. Moreover, since they make changes towards the
varieties of travelling which at first they only involve for the Umrah and Hajj, then they move on
to travelling all around the world such as Korea, China, and Indonesia, they have achieved great
improvement. This transformation helps Darul Mubarak to be well-known not only in Malaysia
but also to the tourist who wishes to travel in Malaysia.
On the other hand, Darul Mubarak went through many methods in order to attract
customers to travel with them. For example, they use methods of satisfaction and methods of
advertisement. Besides, few strategies in promoting their company have been done for the
preparation of going global. They used a website and blogs to promote their packages to
people. They also provide e-book for guidance for travelling.
In conclusion, a company must not only have good marketing plans, it must also have a
good manager and employees. These are the important elements to maintain a successful
company. The leader must possess good leadership skills and foresight of planning. The
employees also play vital roles to keep the company success. They have to work hard, be
motivated and honest in doing their works. Upon completion of this project, the team has
concluded that, it is understandable how Darul Mubarak Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd. manages to
