Dear Michiko,

How are you? I am fine here. I received your letter three days ago and decided

to write to you now. My school mid-semester break is just over and its back to tons of

homework again. Anyway, I had an enjoyable holiday.

My family and I went to Genting Highlands for the holidays. There is an indoor

and an outdoor theme park. Since it rainedcats and dogs, so we spent our time at the

indoor theme park. We played video games, won coupons and exchanged them for cute

soft toys.

On the second day, we went on many rides, including the go-kart and

roller-coaster. I enjoyed the boat ride the most. We took a lot of photos. I am sending

you some so you can see how it looks like over there. I will be sending one to you verysoon. We also went window shopping and watched the latest movie.

After dinner, we went for a karaoke session before returning to our rooms. We

felt very exhausted. Even so, my dad and mom checked on my sisters and I to make

sure we were safe. At noon the following day, we left Genting Highlands by car.

Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow.

Baca petikan di bawah dan jawab soalan-soalan berikutnya.

On 5th June 2015, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck Ranau, Sabah and lasted for 30

seconds. Eighteen people were unfortunately killed by the earthquake and a massive landslide

that followed it. The earthquake also damaged the area around Mount Kinabalu, thus forcing the

Kinabalu Park to be temporarily closed until the situation is cleared and the area is repaired.

Mount Kinabalu is located in Sabah. Mount Kinabalau and its surrounding park have a

wide range of habitats. Mount Kinabalu was included in UNESCOs World Heritage List in 2000

to preserve and protect its natural heritage.

There are many views on the origin of the name of Kinabalu. The most popular viewderives it from the Kadazan words, Aki Nabalu which means the revered place of dead. The local

Kadazan people believe that spirits dwell on the mountain top.

The first person recorded to climb Mount Kinabalu was Sir Hugh Low. However, he did

not reach the highest peak. Instead he stopped at the summit plateau in 1851. A peak, a pitcher

plant, and a rhododendron were named after Sir Hugh Low to honour his journey up the mountain.
