"i'm still remember Mr Suratman bin Jais who taught me from Form 1 to Form 3. I'm also remember
his pants and long sleeves in white. Hard starch. He was driving a white Fiat 600. Opened by the front
door.Was a great man in my mind at the age of 14 years in 1961. Simple behavior. He was never
angry. Anger peaked when his ears reddened, and he was arrested emotional silence. Classmates will
understand the situation and their work to restore calm. "
INTRODUCTION
Track Mr. bin Haji Jais Suratman teachers who are leaders of Johor in 2000 not as difficult as
any. Although Tuan Haji Suratman is a good old friends of my father but I do not take lightly the
business of this interview. I also get as much information from the information technology facilities
that’s available now. After a little bit of information was obtained, then I arrange an great appointment
with him. Alhamdulillah, thanks to god that my plan to make an appointment is received with great
warmth and open hearts. our arrival was warmly welcomed in the evening by his wife Puan Jamilah
binti Jamsari. For a moment waiting in the living room, Tuan Haji Suratman emerged hold and hug by
his wife and son. At the age of 74 she felt a bit sick now and his wife said he suffered from Parkinson's
disease two years ago. Although quite ill, but the smile that’s never out from his lips makes me feel
comfortable and warm for me to continue this interview.
BIOGRAPHY
Suratman bin Haji Jais was born on 28 November 1937 in Kg Permatang Rengas , Batu Pahat,
Johor. The eldest of three siblings, two men and a woman had to undergo a simple life since their
childhood. Jais bin Wongso his father worked as farmers and food vendors. While her mother Sumirah
binti Haji Mansor died when he was young. Since the death of his mother, his father led away to
Singapore and to build new lives there. He and his siblings were reared and raised by aunts and
grandmother. Aunt and grandmother had given Mr. Suratman an adequate education and full of
loveship.
REPORT
During the interview session with Mr. Suratman bin Hj Jais many things that have been told to
me. Apparently, Tn. Siratman bin Hj Jais has been through a variety of sweet and bitter experience
have passed along as he be a teacher. All I can go through experiences that have made exemplary and
guide me as a teacher.
When asked about this man's ambition since childhood, became an educator is the only ambition that
became his dream. He has made the Commissioner, Jamil Sulong as his idol. By making an idol Jamil
Sulong as causing a variety of questions in mind to play. Who does not know Jamil Sulong? Malay
film director who became well-known references to date. Jamil Sulong? why he became an idol ask
me. According to him, the actor and film director is famous for one of the teachers who teach Japanese
language when he was small. Perhaps many do not know, director Jamil Sulong was a teacher and
writer during his youth.
He lives like other children also. Among his close friends when it was my own uncle Jamil bin Haji
Misdan a year younger than his age. He is also learning how to read qoran every day in the evening
with a rather stern uncle, the one when teaching children like them in their village.
Born in the days before independence to give him a chance to had an experience the advancing
Japanese army and the Kamikaze attack aircraft in the vicinity of the town of Parit Sulong battle
Japanese forces allied with the military. In fact, he also had bad life when he and local residents had to
find a hideout in the remote areas to ensure the safety of themselves and their families.
1. EDUCATION AND SERVICES
Talking about high school, he could go to school in primary schools in Japan during the Japanese
rule. Then on October 15, 1945 he continued his schooling at Parit Sulong Malay school until the end
of primary six at the school in 1952. Undeniable talent has been evident since childhood leadership
again that when he was often involved with the game and frequently lectures to student leaders. He
said at that time a lot of teachers who provide support and encouragement to him on the teacher Abas.
Once completed primary six he began working as a teacher in the People's Public School Series
Permatang Rengas, Seri Medan, Batu Pahat for two years (1952-1953). According to him, he was
among the first individuals to explore the school together with Ms Wahab bin Abu. The school is
running classes Letters (Adult Class).Still fresh in the memory of first salary he earned at the time of
just RM41.00 only per month. Next, in May 1954 he was chosen to attend primary school teacher
training at the Sultan Idris Training College in Tanjung Malim Perak for two years.
After completing his teacher training at the Tanjung Malim in 1956, he was assigned to the and
worked at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Lelaki Bandar Kluang for a year. In January 1957 he was
transferred to Sekolah Kebangsaan Lelaki Bandar Kluang . He is a graduate of the college's first
teacher sent to the school to teach primary six. At that time there were only 11 males and one female
student. In fact, most of the male students had a mustache and beard.
In 1958, he attended college for a year in the abstract, Bukit Senyum, Johor Bahru. He was then only
four away from the Johor selected to enter the college. After completing a course at Teachers College
working language he directed at the Overseas Chinese High School, Batu Pahat and served in that
school for three years from 1959 to 1961.In 1962 he also served on the School Bentara Foreign
Minister, Batu Pahat until 1969. During his tenure at this school he took the opportunity of improving
his education by taking the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) as a private candidate in 1962 and took
Higher School Certificate Examination (STPM) as well as private candidates in 1968. Effort and
persistence it was worth when he managed to continue his studies at the University of Malaya on May
13, 1969 to 1972 in the field of Malay Studies. Upon graduation in 1972, He was also in the Secondary
School Datuk Haji Hassan Yunos, Renggam until 1982.
After 30 years as an educator, Mr. Haji Suratman has changed is the Kluang District Education Office
(PPDK). In PPDK he served as Assistant District Education Officer (Secondary) until his retirement in
1992.
CONTRIBUTIONS IN EDUCATION
During his tenure as an educator he also serves as an Examiner Paper national language (Bahasa
Malaysia) Sijil Rendah Pelajaran (SRP) since 1964 until he was appointed Team Leader for the years
1974 to 1992. In addition, he was also appointed as Chief Inspector Oral Test Area Education
Examination Malaysia Bahasa Malaysia SPM / SPVM in 1984 to 1986. From 1984 to 1986 he was also
appointed as Chief Inspector teams paper Malay Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and in 1986 to 1991 as an
Assistant Inspector General Joint SPM Malay.
In addition, the other major tasks that he held during his tenure was the Deputy Chairman of the
Schools Sports Council Kluang, Vice Chairman of the Association of Sports and Culture Education
Service (PSKPP) Kluang, Vice Chairman of the Kluang District Teachers' Day, Vice-
Chairman Curriculum Kluang, MSSD Games Technical Committee Chairman Oils, Part-time Lecturer
at the Regional Training Centre (RTC) Batu Pahat (1966-1967), Personnel Policies Johor State Library
(1977-1978), Personnel Policies Bahasa Malaysia Johor State High School (1980 -1981) and the
Legislative Intan Kluang Lecturer (1983 - 1985).
Among his other contributions in 1957 he, along with partner teachers have voluntarily entered Books
Exhibition Malay issued before World War until 1957 at the Malay Teachers' Club of Batu Pahat. In
that year he also introduced a poem recital performances in Batu Pahat. Subsequently, in 1964 for his
artistic talent had been actively involved in the design of library buildings in the High School Bentara
Foreign Minister, Batu Pahat.
INVOLVEMENT IN COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
Tn Siratman is a very active person. He is an individual who does not know the meaning of busy and
tired. He is busy as a teacher and PPD and that did not prevent him from participating actively in
community activities. Many community activities in which he participated. Among the social activities
which he is accompanied by:

§ Chairman of the Education Bureau of UMNO Division Oils
§ In the 60's Assistant Secretary General of Union of Teachers' Training College,
Malaysia.
§ Member of the Writers Association of Johor.
§ Secretary of town youth sector Oils
§ Chairman of the Town of Unity Nursery Oils.
§ Member of the Welfare Orphanage Islam Kluang.
§ Member of the Islamic Welfare Body, Oils Park.
§ Member of the Surau An Nur, Taman Kluang.
ACTIVITIES AFTER RETIREMENT
Upon his retirement on 28 November 1992, Mr Haji Suratman and his wife continue to perform the
pilgrimage in Mecca. He is an individual who does not know how to be a pasif person.Sure there will
be activities that endeavor. He also spent time doing social work with the local community. Although
retired, he still contributes to the local community.Among the activities carried out by him is a member
of the Board of Prison Visitors Simpang Renggam in 1995 and 1997 and became Vice Chairman of the
Surau An-Nur, Taman Kluang, Kluang. In fact, he also helped manage the business of his beloved
wife. Her children are about four people, two men and two women had already had successful careers
and their lives. Suhaimi Suratman his oldest son (45 years), Tuti Aini Suratman (43 years), Irman
Hilmi Suratman (36 years) and Suhailawati Suratman (35 years)
