Banyak faktor boleh mencetuskan kejadian tanah runtuh

Kejadian tanah runtuh boleh disebabkan oleh :
i. Faktor alam - jenis tanah, bahan dan ketebalan, geomorfologi,
pemendakan, dan kecuraman cerun.
ii. Faktor aktiviti manusia - pengubahsuaian cerun, bentuk saliran,
puncak cerun tidak seimbang dan aktiviti pemindahan secara ketara
tumbuh-tumbuhan di kawasan cerun.
