    Gawai Dayak

    Gawai Dayak in Sarawak is celebrated on the 1stand2ndof June. Like the Harvest Festival in Sabah, it is apublic as well as a private occasion. At festival times,

    people like to return to the village for thecelebrations. A friend may be invited along to sharein the fun. Most Malaysian festivals include an openhouse. All guests are welcomed and fully

    entertained.

    Generally, Malaysians remove their shoes beforeentering a house. The same applies here. If the hosts

    walk around the verandah in shoes, visitors may doso. Never wear shoes to step on a mat, though.
