This part of the region gets high rainfall

throughout the year; causes high groundwater

level and heavy infiltration, which makes

sewer maintanance work more difficult.

Heavy infiltration causes high deposit of

sediments, which makes sewer pipe cleaning

work tougher. It also causes void around the

sewer pipe, which can cause very big traffic

trouble.

Important of Conditions Assessment :

Condition assessment is the critical stage

in the physical engineering step of Asset

Management. This is the point at which

the condition, and therefore the economic

value, of the underground assets, which

form the great majority of the capital

assets of any water or wastewater utility,

become known.





Pre- Assesment:


Condition assessment therefore has a

real impact on utilities’ balance sheets

and value and creates a platform for

management decisions and actions to

strengthen the business and improve its

performance.

Condition assessment is the process of

analysing this data so that it becomes

management information upon which

decisions can be made.

Assessment:

Field investigation has two purposes:

•To fill the gaps in information available from the desk study

•To identify sources and causes of problems and defects

It is important not to rush into field investigation because it is costly. Understand

what information is needed and design the investigation programme to obtain it

– enough but not more.





Assessment:

Field investigation has three possible stages which follow each other:

• Survey Level – e.g. Electro Scan, Acoustic Wave, Soil Chemistry,

Resistivity

• Invasive/Disruptive Level – e.g. CCTV, Laser, Sonar, Broadband

Electromagnetic, Remote Field Eddy Current

• Destructive Level (remove material from pipeline)

Criteria For Investigation and Rehabilitation

• Asset profiling of critical sewers based on:

Age Materials Operational problems Location & diameter

used to categorise and prioritise sewers with structural problems

for rehabilitation.

• Investigation classified under Critical Sewers prior to rehabilitation works.

• works or packages were called to assess the condition of sewers

• Currently sewers recorded with defects in category 3 and above (WRc MSCC 4th Ed)

will be scheduled for rehabilitation works. However, other factors such as location,

depth and diameters will also be taken into consideration for rehabilitation purposes.
