    Section A [28 marks]

    Perak 1. An experiment is conducted to investigate the relationship between the angle of

    incidence and angle of refraction when light travels through a semi-circular glassblock. A light ray AO is directed towards the centre of the glass block, 0 with anangle of x=15 from the normal axis. The ray emerging from the glass block ismarked with two pins, at point B 1 and B 2 respectively.

    Satu eksperimen dijalankan untuk menyiasat hubungan antara sudut tuju dengan sudut biasan apabila cahaya melalui blok kaca separuh bulatan. Sinar cahaya AOditujukan terus ke pusat blok kaca, 0 dengan sudut x = 15 daripada garis normal.

    Sinar yang menembusi blok kaca ditandakan dengan dua pin, iaitu pada titik B, dan B2.

    1. A student carries out an experiment to investigate the relationship between the apparent depth,d and the refractive index, n for different liquids of the same depth. The apparatus is setup asshown in diagram 1.1Seorang pelajar_menjalankan satu eksperimen untuk mengkaji hubungan antara dalam ketara, d denganindeks pembiasan, n untuk cecair berbeza pada kedalaman yang sama. Radas disediakan seperti

    pada Rajah 1.1 The student fills a measuring cylinder with water of refractive index 1.33 to a height of 20 cm.He then marks the apparent position of the image of the optical pin. The apparent depth, d of theimage from the water surface is then measured.

    The procedure is repeated with liquids of different refractive indexes, 1.38 (propyl alcohol),1.43 (ethylene glycol), 1.50 (benzene) and 1.63 (carbon disulfide), using the same cylinder.

    The corresponding marks on the cylinder are shown in Figure 1.2

    Pelajar tersebut mengisi silinder penyukat dengan air yang mempunyai indeks pembiasan, 1.33 sehingga kedalaman 20cm. Pelajar tersebut kemudian menanda kedudukan imej ketara bagi pin optik. Kedalanian ketara, d bagi imej disukat.

    Langkah diulang dengan menggunakan cecair yang berbeza indeks pembiasan, 1.38 (propyl alcohol),1.43 (ethylene glycol), 1.50 (benzene) dan 1.63 (carbon disulfide) menggunakan silinder yang sama.Tanda berpadanan pada silinder ditunjukkan dalam Rajah 1.2

    height of the trolley on the inclined plane from the surface, h. The arrangement of apparatus isshown in Diagram 1.1. The frequency of the ticker timer is 50 Hz. The height of the trolley on the inclined plane from the surface, h = the height of the block.

    At the beginning of the experiment, the height of the block is started with h = 20.0 cm. 10

    ticks is chosen from the centre of the ticker tape to calculate the speed as shown in Diagram1.2. The experiment is repeated by varying the values of h to be 30.0 cm, 40.0 cm, 50.0 cmand 60.0 cm. Every section of 10 ticks at the centre of ticker tape can be obtained as shownin Diagram 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6.
