PENGENALAN

• Badminton World Federation (BWF) / Persekutuan Badminton Dunia ialah suatu badan antarabangsa yang bertanggungjawab dalam hal-hal berkaitan dengan dunia Badminton.

• Ia ditubuhkan pada tahun 1934 sebagai Persekutuan Badminton Antarabangsa bersama 9 anggota (Kanada, Denmark, England, Perancis, Ireland Utara, Belinda, New Zealand, Scotland, dan Wales.)

• Pada 24 September 2006, perjumpaan Tahunan diadakan di Madrid, yang mana kata sepakat menerima penukaran nama baru kepada BWF .

PENGENALAN

• Pejabat yang pertama bagi BWF adalah terletak di Drive,Winchmore Hill, London M 21, England.

• Pada tahun 2005 Oktober1 , pejabat BWF telah dipindahkan ke Unit 17.05 Level 17 ,Amoda Building 22 Jalan Imbi 55100 Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia.

• Organisasi BWF menganjurkan enam acara kejohanan badminton utama berperingkat antarabangsa :

Committees/Commissions

• The main role of Council Committees is to focus on the development of policy. New policies / procedures or amendments to existing policies are drafted by Committees with input from Working Groups and staff. Proposals are then presented to the BWF Council for consideration.

• There are a number of other standing Committees of the BWF such as Disciplinary Committee, Appeals Committee and Doping Hearing Panel.

• BWF Commissions are specialist groups who review current practice and regulations, develop procedures and provide advice to Council Committees or directly to the Council.

• Working Groups are formed by Committees to complete specific tasks for the Committees.

Thomas Lund – COOKey responsibilities• Providing leadership and managing the day to day operations of the BWF.• Overseeing all BWF departments ensuring a high level of service delivery.• Ensuring effective management of staff and effective relations with the BWF

Administration Department and Development Department.• Overseeing and managing all BWF administrative functions including legal

matters and legislative compliance.• Overseeing the management development projects and activities.• Managing the administrative functions of the BWF Anti-doping Program.• Ensuring effective membership services and services to the BWF Council.• Managing the preparation and for Council, Executive Board and annual

meetings.• Planning, both short and long term, together with other senior staff.• Developing in close cooperation with the COO, the strategic and annual

operations plans.• Developing together with the COO, polices and procedures for Council

Darren Parks – Events Director

Key responsibilities

• Providing leadership and managing day to day functions of the Events Department.

• Supporting the work of the BWF Events Committee and the development of the game.

• Overseeing the management of the regulation of world badminton.

• Planning both short and long term for the Events Department.• Working with local organizing committees for BWF and Super

Series events to ensure the highest quality in event delivery.• Overseeing major event delivery from a technical and

sponsorship rights perspective.

Ian Wright - Development Manager

Key responsibilities• Managing a range of Development Department projects and activities.• Supporting the implementation of the BWF Development Plan (2010 –

2016).• Coordinating the day to day activities of the Development Department.• Liaising closely with Members and Continental Confederations on

development initiatives.• Liaising with Olympic Solidarity and other funding bodies on development

initiatives.• Managing the development /delivery of the BWF Coach Education

Membership KRITERIA :I. Be endorsed by the majority of Badminton

Clubs or Associations in its country as the National body.

II. Council be satisfied beyond doubt that the applicant is or will be formally recognised by the overall governing body of sport in the country.

III. If elected, be capable of being recognized by the National Olympic Committee of that country.

IV. Cover the territory of a country that is recognised as such and recognized as an independent and sovereign state by the international community.

Membership KRITERIA :V. Have statutes that are not inconsistent with

those of BWF.VI. Be a legally registered body and/or can satisfy

BWF that it has the legal and administrative ability to administer the sport to an acceptable standard.

VII. Give a formal undertaking to observe the Statutes, Rules and Bye-Laws of the Federation.

VIII. Agree to be bound by the Anti Doping rules consistent with the requirements of Clause 30.

Membership KRITERIA :IX. Undertake to accept as binding and final the

decisions of the competent authorities within the Federation, undertake to be subject to such binding and final decisions and in this regard to recognise the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne as the only possible external judicial authority.

X. Undertake to make every reasonable effort to impose the obligations in Clauses 10.7 to 10.9 upon its affiliated clubs and associations and their members in all those areas in which the Federation has authority.

• Badminton has been part of the Olympic Games since Barcelona 1992. The London Olympic Games is an opportunity to showcase badminton in a country where the sport is widely played at all levels

• 172 badminton players (86 men and 86 women) from more than 50 countries is expected to be  selected to compete in London from 27 July – 12 August 2012.

• The Thomas Cup or Men’s World Team Championships was first staged in 1948-49

• The Thomas Cup, taking place every three years, was the BWF’s first major international tournament. 

• The idea for the competition and the donation of the trophy was by the first President of the World body, Sir George Thomas, legendary player (21 All England titles).

• The Uber Cup or Women’s World Team Championships was added for the first time in

1956-7.• The trophy was presented by

another famous player and the person whose original idea it was to start a team Championships for Women, the eponymous Betty Uber.

• The Sudirman Cup is the World Team Badminton Championships, held every two years, and one of the most prestigious titles in the Sport. 

• The event was first held in the Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia 24-29 May 1989 with 28 nations taking part and it now attracts more than 50 national teams.
