The sense of taste is one of a person's five senses. We taste with the help oftaste-buds in the tongue.

There are four main kinds of taste: sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. All othertastes are just mixtures of two or more of these main types.

The surface of the tongue has more than fifteen thousand taste-buds (orcells). These are connected to the brain by special nerves which send the so-called 'tastes messages.'

When the tongue comes into contact with food of any kind, the taste-budswill pick up the taste. The nerves then send a message to the brain. This willmake us aware of the taste. All this happens in just a few seconds.

There are four kinds of taste-buds, each of which is sensitive to only a

particular taste. These four groups are located in different parts of thetongue.

The taste-buds for salty and sweet tastes are found round the tip of thetongue and along its sides. Sour tastes can be picked up only at the sides ofthe tongue. The taste-buds for the bitter taste are found at the innermostedge of the tongue. There are taste-buds at the centre of the tongue.

The senses of smell and sight can affect taste. The good smell of foodincreases its taste. Similarly, attractive colours can make food appear tastierand more delicious. If food does not smell good or is dull-coloured, it will looktasty and may not taste good at all.

Very hot or cold sensations can make the taste-buds insensitive. Food that istoo hot or too cold, when placed in the mouth, will have no tastes at all.We can taste any kind of food because of ___.a. the good smell of food. d. the senses of smell and sight.b. the four main kinds of taste. e. the taste-buds round the tip of thtongue.c. the taste-buds in the tongue. To improve comfort and cleanliness at our school, a number of dust binsshould be increased.

When we look at classrooms, school corridors and school yard, there arepapers, mineral water cups, straws, and napkins here and there. Thecondition of uncleanliness and discomfort really hinders learning and

teaching environment. Litters thrown carelessly cause disease, especially empty plastic cups or glasses. They can be filled out withwater coming from the rain. This can be placed for dengue mosquitoesto spread out. Besides, these rubbish can deteriorate the scene. Wellpainted wall and green school yard do not mean anything if litters arescattered everywhere.

Anyway I notice that most of the students in our school have

responsibilities for their school environment. They put their litters on theproper places. But some are not diligent enough to find the dust bins. The numbers of dust bins in our schools are not enough. More dust binsshould be put beside each of steps, outside of the classrooms, and somemore along the corridors. Probably one dust bin should be in every tenmeters. So when students want to throw away their litters, they can findthe dust bins easily.

When school is equipped with sufficient dust bins, we do not haveproblems of filth and discomfort any more. Our school will be very cleanand become a nice place to study.

What is the writer's suggestion?(A) To buy more dustbins. (D) To ask parents to give moredustbins.(B) To hire more gardeners. (E) To ask students to clean the schoolyard.(C) To use dustbins efficiently. (UN 2006 No.50 kbk)Otong Setiawan Djuharie

For many years people believed that the cleverest animals after man were thechimpanzees. Now, however, there is proof that dolphins may be even cleverer thanthese big apes.

Although a dolphin lives in the sea it is not a fish. It is a mammal. It is in many

ways, therefore, like a human being.

Dolphins have a simple language. They are able to talk to one another. It may bepossible for man to learn how to talk to dolphins. But this will not be easy becausedolphins cannot hear the kind of sounds man can make. If man wants to talk todolphins, therefore, he will have to make a third language which both he and thedolphins can understand.

Dolphins are also very friendly toward man. They often follow ships. There aremany stories about dolphins guiding ships through difficult and dangerous waters.

To improve comfort and cleanliness at our school, a number of dust bins should beincreased.

When we look at classrooms, school corridors and school yard, there are papers, mineralwater cups, straws, and napkins here and there. The condition of uncleanliness anddiscomfort really hinders learning and teaching environment. Litters thrown carelessly

cause disease, especially empty plastic cups or glasses. They can be filled out with watercoming from the rain. This can be placed for dengue mosquitoes to spread out. Besides, these rubbish can deteriorate the scene. Well painted wall and green school yard do notmean anything if litters are scattered everywhere.

Anyway I notice that most of the students in our school have responsibilities for theirschool environment. They put their litters on the proper places. But some are not diligentenough to find the dust bins. The numbers of dust bins in our schools are not enough. Moredust bins should be put beside each of steps, outside of the classrooms, and some morealong the corridors. Probably one dust bin should be in every ten meters. So when studentswant to throw away their litters, they can find the dust bins easily.

When school is equipped with sufficient dust bins, we do not have problems of filth anddiscomfort any more. Our school will be very clean and become a nice place to study.

What is the writer's suggestion?(A) To buy more dustbins. (D) To ask parents to give more dustbins.(B) To hire more gardeners. (E) To ask students to clean the school yard.
