Wishing you a very Happy & Prosperous New Year!

Dear fellow Bousteadians,

Firstly, allow me to wish you a very Happy New Year. I sincerely hope that 2014 will be a rewarding and successful year for all Bousteadians. As we embark on a bright year ahead, I am pleased to share that in 2013, the Group progressed on our growth path and we are confident that we will be able to further advance in 2014. Looking back on the previous year, I am glad to note that overall, our six Divisions performed satisfactorily and we recorded a solid performance in the third quarter of the 2013 financial year. We also delivered on our promise of enhancing shareholder value by declaring a third quarter interim dividend of 7.5 sen per share for the year ending 31 December 2013. Most notably, a significant milestone we achieved last year was obtaining approval from our shareholders and unitholders for the privatisation of Al-Hadharah Boustead REIT. With this

corporate exercise well underway, we are firmly on track with our plans to consolidate our plantation assets under Boustead Plantations Berhad, with a view towards listing in 2014. The Group’s success could not have been achieved without the unwavering dedication and commitment from all of you. It is indeed a testament to the strong teamwork and leadership capabilities that we possess as a Group that allows us to excel and deliver improved value to our shareholders. As we progress as a Group into the New Year, our ability to remain resilient and steadfast in our performance and delivery will ensure that we continue to succeed. I thank you for your efforts and commitment and I hope for a productive year ahead as the Group develops further.

Boustead REIT Managers Sdn. Bhd. (Boustead REIT)'s unitholders and Boustead Holdings Berhad (Boustead)'s shareholders have approved

the proposals to privatise Al-Hadharah Boustead REIT.

Boustead REIT secured 99.99% of unitholders’ support for the proposal while Boustead obtained 99.98%, in their respective meetings held at The Royale Bintang Damansara. Deputy Chairman/Group Managing Director, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin said the privatisation of Boustead REIT will pave way for Boustead to consolidate all of its plantation assets into one entity with a view towards listing of its plantation business.

“This is part of Boustead’s ongoing exercise to rationalise the Group’s activities and unlock the best possible value from all our investments. In this way, we can gain the best possible returns in terms of dividend yield as well as appreciation in share price for shareholders,” he added.

BN Shipyard signs agreement to acquireKorean specialist MRO services

B oustead Naval Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. (BN Shipyard), an associate of

Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad (BHIC) has signed a RM5.32 million service acquisition agreement with Might Meteor Advanced Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. (MMAM) on 6 November 2013.

The agreement saw BN Shipyard acquiring specialist Korean consulting and advisory services in ship maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) to enhance its existing service portfolio, while optimising the shipyard’s

capabilities for its Service Life Extension Programme (SLEP) which upgrades ships which use can be extended beyond their current certified life. BN Shipyard was previously awarded the contract to extend the life of two Kasturi class ships, namely, KD Lekir and KD Kasturi by 10 years for the Royal Malaysian Navy. The 15-month service agreement with MMAM is expected to contribute towards BN Shipyard, ensuring a cost effective and on-time completion of this programme.

BHIC's Managing Director, YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Ahmad Ramli Hj. Mohd Nor, said, “It is vital that under the Economic Transformation Programme, high tech industries such as ours can be further developed by injecting specialised foreign expertise that allows for knowledge and technology sharing in niche areas. By collaborating with MMAM, we are able to acquire Korean best shipyard practices that in turn allow the BN Shipyard to increase its productivity and meet delivery goals.”

The collaboration between Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation Berhad (BHIC) and UK-based Macduff Ship

Design Ltd (Macduff) came to fruition with the successful delivery of two 16-metre tugboats on 10 October 2013. Designed by Macduff and built by BHIC at its Boustead Langkawi Shipyard, the tugboats were delivered to Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. (BN Shipyard) in Lumut.

Built at a total cost of RM5.75m each, the general purpose tugboats have 20-tonne bollard pull and an operating range of 300 nautical miles, which enables them to provide harbour support services for the BN Shipyard basin, along with other support duties for the Royal Malaysian Navy.

As part of a strategic move by BHIC to enhance its technological capabilities and skills in smaller commercial vessels, the collaboration with Macduff plays a key role in strengthening BHIC’s position in the region as a specialist producer of these innovative craft, with modern technology and state of the art specifications.

Mr. David Berry, Executive Director of BHIC, said at the handover ceremony, “The design collaboration with Macduff has been a catalyst for the expansion of BHIC’s expertise in key areas. Given their wealth of design and technical expertise, especially in tugs and workboats, and their drive to excel, we have been able to forge close ties with Macduff. This has allowed BHIC to create a niche for the company by focusing on smaller commercial vessels that are in demand, with better margins which will contribute positively to our bottom line.”

He also led the groundbreaking ceremony of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) on 29 January 2002.

“There have been a very small number of outstanding individuals who have received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and it is very impressive that among these recipients are two Malaysians,” said Professor Christine Ennew, Provost and CEO of UNMC.

Two other alumni members, Molly Fong, CEO of Body Shop Malaysia and Dr. Ting Kang Nee, Head of the School of Biomedical Sciences at UNMC, were presented with the Laureate Award for Alumnus of the Year 2013 and the Laureate Award for Special Excellence respectively by the University for their achievements and contribution towards society.

Day 1 - Friday, 13 September 2013

Upon our arrival at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport at around 12 noon, we were met by our representative, Mr. Lucky, who transferred us to our hotel, the Baiyoke Boutique. We quickly freshened up and made our way to Asiatique The Riverfront, Bangkok’s first large-scale riverside project combining shopping, dining, sightseeing, activities and events all under one roof. At Asiatique, there are many unique items not commonly found at other tourist attractions in Bangkok. The clothes and bags are from independent designers with nice designs at affordable prices. The ladies had a great time shopping while the guys explored the area and snapped photos. Soon it was dark and we went back to our hotel after enjoying a steamboat dinner to ease our hungry stomachs.

Day 2 - Saturday, 14 September 2013

It was another adventure for us as we headed over to Chatuchak Market, the mother of all markets and one of the biggest and most famous in the world. Its sheer size and the diverse collections of merchandise will bring any seasoned shopper to their knees – this is where you can literally shop ‘till you drop.’

We only had the morning to spend at Chatuchak, so in that short time we shopped up a storm. It was not hard to find things worth buying. The prices were pretty

good and the vendors were more than willing to haggle. This was the time to brush up our negotiation skills. We got through about half of the market and managed to leave with our hands full of bags. After Chatuchak, we stopped at the Esplanade Bangkok where we went to a bowling alley. We had a good time bonding with our team members. The usual spirit of fun, laughter and camaraderie was alive and well again this year. We then made a quick stop at MBK Mall, one

of Bangkok’s oldest and most well-known shopping malls, before we called it a day.

Day 3 - Sunday, 15 September 2013

On the third day of our trip, we experienced a historical Thai adventure as we cruised along Thailand’s longest river, the Chao Phraya River. The cruise

provided a very different look at life in the city on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, aspect perspective you cannot get from the usual Bangkok city tour.

A trip to Thailand is not complete without a visit to the exquisite compound containing both the Royal Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. No words could come close to describe how spectacular each and every detail on the walls of the temple and on the many statues around the district were, from golden statues to statues made with small pieces of marble, glass and mirrors. Simply amazing!

Having seen a good chunk of what the temple area had to offer, we made our way to Jim Thompson’s outlet, which offers the best Thai silk. The quality was excellent and though it was a bit pricier than other places, it was well worth the money. After Jim Thompson, we made a quick stop at the Thai Silk Factory before we headed back to our hotel. Some called it a day while others ventured out in groups to the nearby street market and Platinum Fashion Mall.

Day 4 - Monday, 16 September 2013

The time had come for us to bid farewell to Bangkok. It was a fun-filled bonding trip for all and everyone trudged home tired but happy, with fond memories and bags full of shopping and souvenirs. The smiles on everyone's faces said it all.

The much anticipated teambuilding trip that Boustead Credit Sdn. Bhd. (Boustead Credit) staff members

have all been waiting for was finally held at The Royale Bintang Resort & Spa Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, from

11 to 13 October 2013.

Staff from the Selayang, Kuala Lumpur, Skudai and Prai branches as well as the Head Office made their way to Seremban. They reached their destination as

expected at about 4pm, except for the Perai team who arrived at 7pm, being the furthest away and having to brave the long Hari Raya Aidil Adha crawl. Earlier, the staff witnessed a welcome speech by our General Manager, En. Norahim Yusoff, who among other things emphasised the importance of team spirit in fostering strong bonds between the staff of all the branches.

Following a brief rest in the evening, we proceeded for dinner at 8pm. During dinner, our General Manager was taken by surprise and was visibly moved when he was presented with a birthday cake. It was completely unexpected as his birthday had taken place a week ago.

We started the morning with a telematch at about 8.30am. Team members were all geared up and went into action immediately. The balloon race (in pairs) and the stepping balloon game were

hilarious and filled with amusing antics. We continued with a few more fun games until 10.00am.

After a quick break, we proceeded to Malacca town by coach, stopping for lunch at the Baba and Nyonya restaurant at Melaka Raya where we satisfied our taste buds! Cendol was served as dessert, which was not

bad but could have been better with more ‘gula Melaka.’ We were all smiles as the food was generally quite tasty.

After lunch, we went to Masjid Selat to perform the Zohor prayer. Then, we stopped at a honey shop, where we watched a demonstration by Mr. Khoo on how honey was produced. The visit ended with several staff walking away with a handful of honey products each.

We then went to the A’Famosa Fort, Jonker Street and the Stadthuys, which are must-see historical sites in Malacca. The thrill-seekers among us also took a leisure ride in the famous trishaws (beca), which was interesting but the fare was a bit too steep for our liking. The river cruise which was a first experience for many was fascinating, as we passed by several historic buildings and old colonial houses. We took a day trip but we were later told the night trip would have been more interesting, as many of the sights are illuminated by colourful lights. We concluded the Malacca trip with a lavish 'ikan bakar' dinner treat at Seri Muara Alai seafood restaurant. All in all, it was a hectic but fun day and everyone slept through the journey back to the hotel in Seremban.

On the final day, we went bowling at the Seremban Superbowl at Seremban Parade. It was essentially an exclusively Boustead Credit

affair as nearly the entire bowling arena was conquered by our group. It was another noisy and fun-filled event. At the prize giving ceremony, the Selayang and Skudai branches emerged as joint champions. Bravo to all for portraying good sportsmanship throughout the game.

It was indeed a memorable trip for all. The programme has strengthened the team spirit

and camaraderie between staff of the four branches and the Head Office. Besides the fun and excitement, all were motivated and inspired. It was all about sharing and working together as a team, and we are all looking forward to another outing in the future.
