On 9 August 2010, Mr Lau Tun Kong had given us an assignment about
indices, surds and logarithms. This is an individual tasks and its marks is 20 %. In
the assignment we need to solve a 4 related question.
All the question are related to indices , surds and logarithms. So we need to
apply what we already learn to solve the question.
Discussion between our classmates help me to complete the assignment on time
and the question in this assignment help me to understanding more on the topics
indices,surds and logarithms.

I. To enhance students` mastery skill of related to indices, surds and logarithms;
II. To enable students to apply knowledge of indices, surds and logarithms in
solving daily problems, and
To enhance relevant knowledge and skills through various resources such as books
and internet.

Given that in a cell duplication experiment in the science laboratory,you begin with
one cell and the cell will double every minute.
a) Draw a diagram to illustrate the cell duplication for the first 4 minutes
b) Write a function to denote the size of the population after t minutes.
c) By using the function , determine the cell population after half an hour.
d) Determine how long it would take the population to reach 50000 cells.

2 (a) = one cell
1 minutes
2 minute
3 minute
3 minute
4 minute

2(b ) At the first minute the cell is 1
Common diferrence is = 8 ÷ 4
= 2
So the function to denote the size of the population is = 2^t #
2 (c) Half an hour = 30 minutes
2 ^ t = 2 ^ 30
= 1073741824
The cell population after half an hour is = 1073741824 #

2 (d) 2 ^ t = 50000
2 ^ t = log 50000
t (log 2) = log 50000
t = log 50000
log 2
t = 15.6096
t = 15.6096
t = 15.6096 minutes
Time for the population to reach 50000 cells = 15.6096 minutes #

For the conclusion ,this assignment help me to understand more about indices,

complete this assignment.
