Brunei Ancient Brunei To 16th Century

LENGTH OF LESSON:

2 periods

UNIT: # 2.1 - Early Brunei SUB TOPICS: Vijayapura

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to apply to skills of:

1. Interpreting pictures into storyline and;

2. Identifying important facts on the topic

LESSON PROCEDURES:

Introduction:

Teacher explains on ancient Brunei which was reffered to by different names according to Chinese

records.

Teacher highlights Poli as Brunei in 6 th century, as Vijayapura in 7th century and as Poni in the 10th

century.

Content:

Practical - Groupwork

Maximum 4 persons in each group.

ACTIVITY 1

Each group will be given a bag of cut out pictures which relates to Vijayapura (ref. to Appendices

folder on Vijayapura).

Teacher prepares labels for the pictures and sticks it on the whiteboard randomly.

Each group will be asked to rearrange the pictures and stick it on a manila card using blutack

provided by the teacher.

ACTIVITY 2

Once completed activity 1, each group will be given 2 minutes to discuss on which label to choose for

the puzzle picture they have completed.

One person from each group will put up their groups manila card on the board.

He / she picks the label from the end side of the board that was prepared by the teacher.

He / she sticks the label chosen on the manila card above their picture, to present it as a heading.

3. Sequencing events chronologically.

LESSON PROCEDURES:

Introduction:

Teacher explains on ancient Brunei which was reffered to by different names according to Chinese

records.

Teacher highlights Poli as Brunei in 6 th century, as Vijayapura in 7th century and as Poni in the 10th

century.

Content:

Practical Individual work

ACTIVITY 1

Teacher provides cut out pieces of short sentences and puts on the board randomly.

Students will be given a sheet of paper consisting of 3 sets of pictures relating to Poni.

Students will pick and choose sentences from the board and rearrange it into 1 sensible sentence to describe

each picture.

Theory Explanation

Teacher explains on the pictures as evidence suggesting that Poni was rich.

ACTIVITY 2

After the brief explanation, teacher hands out another sheet of paper that provides a blank timeline for the

students to fill in.

Students fill in the blank timeline (by reffering to their textbooks).

Theory Explanation

Teacher explains the timeline showing the chronology of events showing the rise and fall of Poni.
