ADDITIONAL MATHEMATICS PROJECT WORK2016
The Household Expenditure Survey (HES) was first conducted in the year 1957/5!
"e#innin# 199$/9% it was carried out at an interval of five years and the recent survey was
underta&en in '9/'1! The survey covered private households in uran and rural areas!
The *ain o+ective of HES was to collect infor*ation on the level and pattern of
consu*ption expenditure y households on a co*prehensive ran#e of #oods and services!
This infor*ation served as the asis for deter*inin# the #oods and services to e included
in the as&et of the ,onsu*er -rice .ndex (,-.)! .t was also used to represent the
expenditure pattern of households in alaysia!
However0 over the years0 de*and for data fro* the survey has increased and it is now
used for several purposes! HES has eco*e an invaluale source of infor*ation for
#overn*ent and private sectors0 researchers and university students!
