INTRODUCTION

KL-Kepong Country Homes Sdn Bhd has embarked on development on CT 12606,

Lot 851, Mukim Ijok, Daerah Kuala Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan with total area of

405.10 hectares / 1001.02 acres comprising of landed residential houses, apartments,

commercial lots, shops, petrol station, institution and community facilities such as

school, masjid, hall, police station, polyclinic, and etc. The site is bounded West and

South by Jalan Sg. Buloh – Kuala Selangor (FR 54); North and East Tuan Mee Estate

and Vmy Estate.

This development project is planned in few phases as shown in the phasing

demarcation plan attached in appendix. The water demand based on development

phasing is also tabulated in Section 3.

Application for water supply and tapping point was approved by SYABAS Selangor

Sdn Bhd via their letter reference SYA/DD/KSL/IJOK/LT851/10/04806 dated 2nd

June 2010 and low zone water reticulation for phase 1A1, 1A2, 1A3, 1B1, 1B2, 1C1,

1C2 & 1D1 was approved by SYABAS Selangor Sdn Bhd via their letter reference

SYA/NPD/DD/KSL/Ijok/LT851/12(04635). Subsequently the falling main to low

zone and the reticulation pipe to the above phases were completed and handed over to

SYABAS Kuala Selangor in phases.

The location of tapping point is at 2200 mm & 1700 mm diameter M.S pipes located in

SYABAS waterworks reserve at Taman Industri Alam Jaya about 0.2 km away from

Jalan Meru. The safe water pressure available is 69.0 m ODL. A copy of above letter

is attached.

The incoming main and ground tank for low zone supply cum suction tank have been

approved by SYABAS via their letter reference

SYA/NPD/DD/KSL/IJOK/LT851/11/11033 date 28 September 2011. The installation

is being constructed in the phase 1 development.

The objective of this report is to present the details network analysis for the Water

reticulation for precinct 3A, 3B, 3B1, 3C & 3D for Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn

Bhd approval.

WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM

The water supply system within this development would be divided into 2 zones

namely Higher Zone and Lower Zone. The lower zone would be served by ground

reservoir and the Higher Zone would be served by two elevated reservoirs. The

ground tank would serve two functions namely as ground storage reservoir for Lower

Zone supply and as suction tank for elevated reservoir. The construction of ground

storage reservoir was completed and handed over in 4th June 2013 and the elevated

reservoir is in construction stage.

The total storage required for higher zone supply and lower zone supply are

1,768,415.00 gallons and 1,169,146.16 gallons respectively. The storage provided for

ground storage reservoir is 1,782,000 gallons. The storage for both elevated water

tanks total to 1,188,000 gallons. The combined storage provided for the elevated tanks

and ground tank, 2,970,000 gallons are more than the total overall demand required.

The water from suction tank will be pumped to elevated tanks via 4 pumps. The

pumps are divided into 2 separate systems, each serving one elevated tank. The

elevated tanks are connected with balancing pipe.

Elevated Water Tank (2 nos Round)

Design Capacity = 1,188,000 gallon = 5400.00 m3.

Ground level = 51.00 m

Top Water Level = 90.50 m

Bottom Water Level = 85.00 m

Diameter = 25.20 m

Design Criteria

The design is based on the following criteria

a) Minimum pressure = 4.50m above required supply level

b) Maximum pressure = 30 m

c) Maximum head loss = 2 m per 1 km

d) All pipes, valves and appurtenances shall be in accordance with Syabas Sdn

Bhd requirement.

e) Proposed higher supply level is tabulated as below:

Floor Height Highest Supply Level (Included water tank Level)

Single Storey 3.5 + 2.0 (Water tank height ) = 5.5m

Double storey 7.0 + 2.0 (Water tank height) = 9.0m

Three Storey 10.5 + 2.0 (Water tank height) = 12.50m

Hydraulic Analysis

The reticulation of the water supply system is analyzed based on Hardy Cross method

of balancing flows by correcting the assumed pressures.

The Hazen William equation is used in the design:

V = 0.35464C x D0.63 x I0.54

Where

V = Flow velocity in m/sec

D = internal diameter of pipes in m

C = friction coefficient

= 100 for DI/AB-3P pipe.

I = Loss of head per unit length

The analysis is carried out for peak flow of the water reticulation with factor of 2.5

and for fire flow with factor of 1.0

Results

The output data for the pipeline network analysis is show in appendix.

Discussion and Conclusion

The results from the calculation show the pressures are sufficient. In conclusion, the

design complies with the requirement.
