MAP OF KUBANG PASU
Kedah’s northern-most district, Kubang Pasu offers a host of offerings from nature and adventure to lifestyle and leisure. There’s
also education, having the premier Universiti Utara Malaysia at Sintok, plus attractions in
heritage and agriculture. Although located in Kedah’s upper north, Kubang Pasu is in fact
quite accessible as the state’s main airport at Kepala Batas is at the district’s southern
border and close to its biggest town, Jitra.

DARULAMAN GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
Taking a play on the place name Bukit Kayu Hitam, meaning Black Wood Forest, this international golf resort offers both challenging and pleasurable golfing that is open to all visitors, with full clubhouse facilities amidst green undulating rainforest and plantation lands.
Billed as “A Place for Everyone”, this resort club not only has an 18-hole golf course but also golfing range, swimming pool, sports courts, gym, hotel and chalets readily accessible in Jitra.

GUA KERBAU (BUFFALO CAVE)
TUNKU ANUM ROYAL TOMB
BUKIT WANG RECREATIONAL FOREST
PRINCESS LINDUNGAN BULAN TOMB
An ancient tale of a monstrous mythical creature
Sang Kelembai turning a buffalo into a giant hill gave this cave its name,
and indeed Kodiang area’s limestone formations date
back almost 300 million years ago, filling the cave
with interesting shapes as a backdrop of history here - from Neolithic settlements
to Kedah troop preparations against Siamese attack.
For the tomb of a King, Makam Tunku Anum is
modest but historic and it reminds of the years 1839
to 1854 when Kubang Pasu was a small independent
state ruled by Tunku Anum himself after being
bequeathed with the land, following his efforts and
success in getting Kedah released from Siamese
occupation.
A literal translation of Rimba Rekreasi Bukit Wang is ‘Money Hill’ Recreational Forest but like most pristine jungle river nature areas like this one in Jitra, money can’t buy the peaceful and self-sustaining natural environment with gushing waterfalls, clean long river pools and rockfaces, making it a popular bathing, picnic and outdoor spot.
A pretty mausoleum, Makam Puteri Lindungan Bulan or Tomb of the Moon-Protected Princess holds the story of a beautiful and special white-blooded Princess of Kedah, of whom to avoid marriage to a foreign king who wanted a white-blooded queen her father the Sultan hid her in a place so impenetrable that even the moonlight would not shine on it when the foreign army invaded and so failed to find her.

This shopping complex at Kedah’s Bukit Kayu Hitam border town with Thailand can put you in shop-till-you-drop mode with its duty-free offerings, but do note that you need to leave Malaysia for a period of time and return here to enjoy the bargains.
Also locally known as Wat Siam as it is a Siamese Buddhist temple, this colourful wat (temple) at Padang Sera is largely of traditional Thai-style architecture and shows the multi-religious harmony of Kubang Pasu and Kedah as a whole.
Batik traditional hand-drawn design fabrics are well-loved across the Malay Archipelago, and Kedah has its very own batik atelier in 3S Batik Village in Jitra, where besides a large variety of ready products customers can also draw their own batik or have custom-made products as well.
A premier fruit growing research centre run by the Malaysian Agricultural Research & Development Institute, it is also popularly known as MARDI Sintok located at Bukit Tangga, where visitors are welcomed to learn about and taste various high quality fruits when in season.

Kedah Cuisine and a Cuppa
While Kedah shares staple food ingredients such as rice and noodles with the region, there are recipes so original to the
state until it bears its name. Laksa Kedah is one such must-try, a fish-based soupy rice noodle dish. For a local
cuppa, try our local coffees such as ‘kopi Kedah’ and ‘kopi Cap Gantang’ and you won’t go wrong.

Getting to the Kedah Mainland
If ancient traders could travel to Kedah since nearly 2000 years ago, you can too. Located
on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, it is one of the country’s northern
gateways bordering Thailand to its north. You can travel to Kedah by air, road, rail or
sea even on a cruise ship.

The Malay Language or Bahasa Melayu is a relatively easy language to learn and speak. Pronunciation generally follows the spelling, with “sy” in Malay pronounced as the “sh” sound in English. The only slight uncertainty being “e” which can be pronounced either like the ‘her’ or ‘hey’ sound but generally
you will still be understood even if it is mixed up.
