Communication in today's global societies is increasinglymultidimensional, multicultural and multilingual and is becoming moreand more complex. In this age of commercial globalism, translators playa supreme role in bridging the gap across boundaries of !anguage andculture. In the cutting edge of the academic world, skillsin translating isnot only a must but also vital in promoting international understandingand in transmitting new knowledge. Thiscourse is specifically designed toequip students or academics with practical tronslotior» skills that willenable them to familiarize themselves with the practice of franslation. Thecourse will introduce participants to basic concepts in translation and thetranslation process, with significant emphasis on the strategies used intranslating specialised material such as abstracts and journal articles.
