Firstly, I would like to express my joyful and thankful feelings for the reason

that after I have work very hard, at last I manage to complete the second semester

assignment, Macbeth Drama Play and this English Studies (ES) assignment, the

Macbeth Drama Play reflection. Thousands of thank you I wish to my ES lecturer,

Madam Rohaida bt A. Rahmat who has guided me very much to finish my

assignment. She also frequently supporting me in my ES subject to ensure that I can

success in my learning. I think that without her guidance and persistent help, this

dissertation would not have been possible.

In addition, I also would like to thank to all my friends such as Mohd Faris

Mansor, Faiz Syafiq, Nik Mohd Zakwan, Kamal Abd Hamid, and all others that

supported me very much as they help me greatly in my work by helping me in the

MACBETH [ HOUSE OF CAMELOT ]

-Scene 1-

Thunder and lightning [sound effect]. Three witches seen after the striking

storm.

First witch : Where have you been sister?

Second witch : Killing swine.

Third witch : We need to see Macbeth.

First witch : When?

Third witch : When the hurlyburlys done.

Suddenly a drums beats, and the third witch cries that Macbethhas come.

Third witch : A drum ! A drum ! Macbeth has come !

Banquo : Excuse me, how far is it to the town of Forres?

Silence.

Banquo : Are the three of you mortal? Can any of you speak? Well, I just thought

that you were a women, but your beards that I can see is telling me that you are not.

Hey. Hello [ waving his hands to their faces ] ?

Macbeth : Hey, speak if you can. Who are you?

First witch : All hail, Macbeth. Hail to you, Thane of Glamis !

Second witch : All hail Macbeth. Hail to you, Thane of Cawdor !

Third witch : All hail Macbeth ! That shall be king hereafter.

Macbeth : What ?!

Banquo : Macbeth? Thane of Cawdor? The King??

First witch : You will be less than Macbeth, but much greater.

Second witch : Not as happy as Macbeth, only still much happier.

Third witch : Your son will be the king, eventhough you will not be the king. So, all

hail Macbeth and Banquo !

Witches : All hail, Macbeth and Banquo !

Macbeth : Hey, explain what you are talking about ! I do not understand. Hey !

The three witches suddenly vanish into the thin air.

Macbeth : Who are they? What are they saying just now?

Banquo : You will be the Thane of Cawdor !

Macbeth : Your son will be the king.

Banquo : You shall be the king?

Suddenly enter Ross and Angus, who have come to tell them the message

from the King.

Macbeth : Ross, Angus. What are you doing here?

Ross : Macbeth, we are here to tell you that the king has happily received the news

of your success.

Angus : We are sent from our royal master to give you the deepest thanks and to tell

you about his order to call you the Thane of Cawdor from now on.

Banquo : What? The witches words seems true [whispering to Macbeth].

Macbeth : The Thane of Cawdor is still alive, why does the King want to address me

by his name?

Ross : He had betrayed the King.

Angus : We will convey you to see the King.

Macbeth turn to Banquo before they go with Ross and Angus.

Macbeth : Well, dont you hope your children shall be kings?

Banquo : Witches words will only be 50% true

Macbeth : Do you think the reign will simply fall to me or I have to perform a dark

deed in order to gain the crown?

Banquo : If luck want you to be the king, you will not have to work for that.

Macbeth : We will discuss about it later. We ha ve to go with them to see the King.

-Scene 2-

At the kings palace; King Duncan, Malcolm, Donalbain, Lennox and the

attendants are talking to each other. Enter Macbeth, Banquo, Ross and Angus.

King Duncan : Welcome ! Welcome, here to my palace. I would like to thank you

both profusely for your great fight in the battle.

Macbeth & Banquo : Its our pleasure, Your Highness.

King Duncan : [smiling] Well, I have an announcement to make.

Everyone look at King Duncan curiously.

King Duncan : I will give the heir to my throne to my eldest son, Malcolm. From now

on, he will be called the Prince of Tehrani, an honor that is not enough to make him a

king.

All : Long live, Prince of Tehrani !

At that moment, Macbeth is thinking thathe has to do something because

now, the Prince of Cumberland is standing in between him and the crown.

Macbeth : By the way my Lord, I will be glad if Your Highness can come and have a

dinner at my castle someday.

King Duncan : Well, I am glad to have the chance to visit your castle. Anytime !

-Scene 3-

At Macbeths castle, Lady Macbeth is waiting for King Duncan to arrive at their

castle. Then enter King Duncan, Malcolm, Donalbain, Banquo, Lennox,

Macduff, Ross, Angus and attendants.

King Duncan : What a pleasant place to live. The air smells light and sweets.

Lady Macbeth : Its such a pleasure to have you visiting our castle, Your Highne ss.

King Duncan : But I wonder where is your husband?

Macbeth : Im here, my King.

Lady Macbeth : Honey, can you please take the king to our dining room please.

They move to the table and enter the servants serving the dine and some

entertainers playing their instruments. While the King is having the dine, Lady

Macbeth take Macbeth to one side to say something.

Lady Macbeth : We have to do something so that you can be the King !

Macbeth : I was thinking about the same thing, but I dont know what t o do.

Lady Macbeth : You have to kill the King Duncan.

Macbeth : What? You must be kidding.

Lady Macbeth : No my husband, Im not kidding. I already got the plan in my head.

Lady Macbeth smile to Macbeth whish seems not really sure to do as whathis

wife said. [Light off] [Light on] King Duncan was sleeping when Macbeth and

Lady Macbeth was standing outside the room. Macbeth seems hard to go and

kill the King Duncan but lady Macbeth forcedhim to just kill the King.

Macbeth : I dont think I will do this.

Lady Macbeth : You have to dear husband ! If not, you will never be the King. Go

now, dear.

Got influenced by whathis wife said, Macbeth started to walk slowly toward

the King Duncans room. When he enter the room, without thinking anything

anymore, he just killed the King Duncan. [light off]

It was a shocking news for the whole castle about the King Duncans death.

When Ross and Macbeth came out from the k ings room, they saw the

Macbeth : You must be the killer!

Chamberlain : No, I was not!

Enter Lady Macbeth.

Lady Macbeth : What is happening? Oh no.

When she saw all the bloody body, Lady Macbeth sud denly faints. She is taken

away.

Malcolm : We have to leave this place. Whoever killed father might try to kill us soon

after.

Donalbain : You are right. We should go separately. I will go to Ireland.

Malcolm : I will go to England.

[light off]

Ross walks outside the castle talking to an old man. Suddenly Macduff come.

Macduff : Macbeth has been made king by the other lords and now he rides to Stone

to be crowned.

Ross : Seriously?

Macduff : Yes, and by the way, I think the chamberlains had been paid by someone

to kill King Duncan.

Ross : You think so?

Macduff : It can be the two princes, Malcolm and Donalbain, because they have fled

the scene.

Ross : We can just wait and see what will happen next.

Offstage.

-Scene 5-

It was the coronation of Macbeth. Macbeth enters, attired as the king. He is

followed by Lady Macbeth, nowhis queen and the court.

Everyone : Hail Macbeth, hail King Macbeth !

In the castle, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is having a secret discussion.

Macbeth : Killing Duncan is not making our mission complete.

Lady Macbeth : You are already the king, dear husband.

Macbeth : No, there are still threats to the throne that must be eliminated.

Lady Macbeth : What do you mean?

Macbeth : I have another plan to kill Banquo and Fleance during the evening feast.

Lady Macbeth : Why do you have to kill them?

Macbeth : You just have to follow what I had planned. [light off]

Macbeth return to the hall,goes to sit at the head of the royal tab le but finds

Banquos ghost sitting in his chair.

Macbeth : Why are you here?

Banquos ghost didnt say anything. Seeing this situation, Lady Macbeth

makes excuses forherhusband.

Lady Macbeth : Dear, what happened?

The ghost disappear, and Macbeth recovers.

Macbeth : I have a strange infirmity which is nothing, to those who know me.

He offers a toast to the companies. However suddenly banquos ghost

reappears and shock Macbeth again. Lady Macbeth then sends the alarmed

guests out of the room as the ghost vanishes again.

Macbeth : This is ridiculous ! [walking out of the stage with anger]

-Scene 6-

Three witches appear on stage together with Hecate, the goddess of

witchcraft. They circle the cauldron, chanting spells and adding bizarre

ingredients to their stew.

Hecate : Eye of newt and toe of frog. Wool of bat and tongue of dog.

Witch 1 : By the pricking of my thumbs.

Witch 2 : Something wicked this way comes.

Enters Macbeth.

Macbeth : Please, make your prophecies clear on me.

Witch 3 : You have to beware of Macduff.

Macbeth : Macduff? Why?

Witch 1 : None of woman born shall harm Macbeth.

Macbeth : None of woman born shall harm Macbeth. Beware of Macduff.

The witches slowly walk away when Macbeth become slightly drunk because

of the witches charms and suddenly enter Lennox.

Lennox : King Macbeth, im here to tell you that Macduff has fled to England.

Macbeth : I order you to send someone to capture Macduffs castle and kill Macduffs

wife ! [while walking out of the stage]

-Scene 7-

Enter Lennox and the other lords call to tell Macbeth.

Lennox : They are making their preparations in a mad rage !

Macbeth : Who are you talking about?

Lennox : It is led by Malcolm and Macduff. They want to set a revenge on you.

Macbeth : Huh. I have nothing to fear on them , since none of woman born can harm

me.

Enter the messenger.

Messenger : I found that Lady Macbeth is kept from thick -coming fancies.

Macbeth : I order you to cure her of her delusions.

Within the castle, Macbeth did the same preparation to confront Malc olm and

Macduff.

Macbeth : Hang all the banners. My castle will surely able to repel the enemies.

A woman shout is heard.

Messenger : Im very sorry, King Macbeth. The queen is dead.

Macbeth was very shocked and become numb when a messenger enters with

astonishing news. Then, enter the messenger again.

Messenger : The trees of Birnam Wood are advancing toward Dunsinane.

Macbeth : No, this is not possible. The prophecy said that I will not die till the Birnam

Wood moved to Dunsinane.

-Scene 8-

Outside the castle, the battle commences.

Malcolm : All soldiers, throw whatever you have in your hand and draw your swords

now.

The soldiers start throwing things and suddenly Macbeth come out from the

castle.

Macbeth : Stop all this. All of you will not be able to defeat me because I got the

prophecy on me saying that not any of the woman born can harm me.

Macduff : Hey Macbeth ! I can surely defeat you because I was not of woman born,

but from my mothers womb ! This is for my wife, my son and my country!

Arggggggh.

Macbeth with the fears on his face finally killed by Macduff. He stabs Macbeth

so many times and afterhe satisfied, he take the crown and proclaims Malcolm

as the King of Scotland.

Macduff : You shall be the king Malcolm. Here, take this.

Malcolm : As you wish my friend, and I declare that all thanes will be made according

to the Arabic system of peerage.

Macduff : Long live, King Malcolm !

All : Long live, King Malcolm.

Malcolm : Thank you so much and all of you are invited to come to my coronation

later at Al-uskum

REFLECTION

On the 3rd May 2011, we were presented our second coursework for the

English Studies subject for the second semester which is Macbeth Drama. This

Macbeth Drama was held successfully in the Wawasan Hall by our June 2010 intake

(J-10 Batch) TESLIANS. There were four houses of productions which House of

Winchester, House of Salazar, House of Alexander and House of Camelot

represented the selected scenes from the Drama of Macbeth from our syllabus. We

have received a lot of guidance from our English Studies lecturer Madam Rohaida bt

A.Rahmat to ensure that we can do the best for our second drama project, Macbeth

Drama.

From my side of view as the Project Manager for this drama presentation, I

can say that our presentation was very well and I can see also the determination

among the trainee to do this drama well for our second time involvement in the

dramas and plays. We have tried to do our best to make the Macbeth Drama looks

great and successful even though we do not have an enough experiences and

knowledge despite it is our second time. In order to make This Macbeth Drama

become more attractive and looks great, we have changed the theme of the Macbeth

Drama, for example the House of Alexander used Malay version and the House of

Camelot play the drama in Arabic version while the House of Winchester and House

of Salazar did not change the theme of the drama. With Madam Ro haidas guide, we

managed to get thumbs up and a big applause from the audience without concerning

much about our technical problem which was the trailer for House of Camelot.

Luckily, our experienced Emcee, Mr Peter Marlone Petrus could cover the technica l

problems with another agenda. When I was given the task from Madam Rohaida to

be a Project Manager, I was thought that it will be very hard for me to complete this

task because I do not even know how to manage a house of production of a

Macbethl Drama. Luckily, all of the members of Main Committee and all the

members from all the house of production gave their full commitment to help me

besides to make sure this Macbeth Drama successfully presented and make our

lecturers proud of us and grade our assignme nt better.

In addition, I would like to say that this Macbeth Drama is the best and

memorable events we ever have in this Kota Bharu Teaching Institute because this

time we can do this play better than the previous Musical Drama. When we were

given this big event to do, we absolutely have to give our big effort to complete it.

The spirit of working together as a team can be seen during the preparation for this

event. Without any doubt, we tried to achieve our goals to success in doing this

Macbeth Drama by set it as our priority and overcome all the problems that come.

Apart from that, the commitment given by all the members from respective

house of production and main committee in order to help each other in making our

play becomes great was very strong. As an example, we had appointed the most

suitable person who is dedicated, responsible and creative as he will manage his

own house of production well during our first meeting with Madam Rohaida. For my

house of production, House of Camelot, we have appo inted Muhammad Amaluddin

bin Abdul Aziz as our director. The dependable director is the one who resolute how

the play going to end and how the improvement of the en tire preparation and during

the events.

Furthermore, from this Musical Drama, I have gained a lot of experiences in

managing the drama as this is my first time to handle a big event as the Project

Manager besides acting for the drama as a side character because all this while, I

did not even care about the skills of management in my life. I t hink that this

opportunity comes only once in a while. I would like to give thousands of thanks to

my beloved lecturer, Madam Rohaida for giving me the opportunity to gain the

experience to be a Project Manager. As my conclusion, I can see that this second

semester coursework taught me much about plays and dramas and management.

Besides, the impact that we received from the Macbeth Drama is in our learning

method. Now I know that we can be very creative and we also can do the variation in

learning English Language. For this project, it helps students to understand the

drama which was written by William Shakespeare who is the greatest play script

writer in the world, in our syllabus without not only reading and listening to the

explanations from the lecturers. Macbeth Drama also gave chance for students to

speak using the correct voice projection besides using the correct pronunciations of

English words and sentence based on their prepared script.

In a nutshell, a lot of benefits and experiences we can get f rom the Musical

Drama either for our studies or our daily life. After the Macbeth Drama was

successfully done, I hope that there is another drama project in future because next

time I would like to hold a character in the drama and I will do my best to mak e the

drama enjoyable and gives a memorable moment either for us or the audience.
