Before the invention of wheels, people moved from one place

to another on foot. Travellers had to carry their belongings with them.

Such journeys were slow, tiring and dangerous .

Later, people learned to make use of animals to help them.

Horses, donkeys, camels, and bullocks were used for riding and

carrying heavy loads. The invention of the wheel introduced a new

way of travelling. Animals could carry more things in a cart built on

wheels. Horses and bullocks were commonly used to pull big carts

with covered tops called wagons. Travelling on wheels was much

faster and less dangerous than walking.

The introduction of the train made travelling mush faster and

more comfortable than travelling by wagons and carts pulled by

animals. Besides, a train can carry more people and goods over long

distances.

Nowadays, with better roads and highways, it is common to

see cars, lorries, vans, busses and motorcycles. Although these

motorized vehicles help people to move easily, they are also a major

cause of air pollution and accidental deaths.

The fastest way to travel is by air. It is possible to fly

from one country to another in just a few hours. Travelling by air

may be the fastest, but it is neither the cheapest nor the safest.
