    IntroDUctIon

    The Green Building Index is an environmental rating system or buildings developed by PAM

    (Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia / Malaysian Institute o Architects) and ACEM (the Association o

    Consulting Engineers Malaysia). The Green Building Index is Malaysias rst comprehensive rating

    system or evaluating the environmental design and perormance o Malaysian buildings based on

    the six (6) main criterias o Energy Eciency, Indoor Environment Quality, Sustainable Site Planning

    & Management, Materials & Resources, Water Eciency, and Innovation.

    The Green Building Index is developed specically or the Malaysian tropical weather, environmental

    and developmental context, cultural and social needs.

    The GBI initiative aims to assist the building industry in its march towards sustainable development.

    The GBI environmental rating system is created to:

    Defne green bildings b establising a oon langage and standard o

    easreent;

    Proote integrated, wole-bilding design;

    Reognise and reward environental leadersip;

    Transor te bilt environent to rede its environental ipat; and

    Ensre new bildings reain relevant in te tre and eisting bildings are

    rerbised and pgraded properl to reain relevant.

    GSB encourages all members o Project Teams, Building owners, Developers and other interested

    parties (including Contractors, Government and Design & Build Contractors) to use the Green Building

    Index to validate environmental initiatives at the design phase o new construction or base building

    reurbishment; or construction and procurement phase o buildings. Use o the Green Building Index

    is encouraged on all such projects to assess and improve their environmental attributes.

    Use o the Green Building Index tool without ormal certication by an independent accredited GBI

    Certier does not entitle the user or any other party to promote the Green Building Index rating

    achieved. No ee is payable to GSB or such use, however ormal recognition o the Green Building

    Index rating - and the right to promote same - requires undertaking the ormal certication process

    oered by Greenbuildingindex Sdn Bhd.

    All Green Building Index rating tools are reviewed annually; please orward any eedback to [email protected]
