Are you an environment-conscious person? Thinking of buyingcar that runs on alternative fuel? There are basically twoalternatives to choose from; vehicles that run on biodiesel orvehicles that run on natural gas.

A car that runs on biodiesel requires absolutely no engine

modifications. To use it, you just need to pour the fuel into thefuel tank. It even mixes with regular petroleum diesel fuel.Biodiesel is made from vegetable oil, alcohol, and catalystthrough a chemical process. Biodiesel is easy to make, can beused in any diesel engine, and drastically reduces exhaustfumes. Biodiesel can be made from any vegetable oil includingsoy, canolla, sunflower, hemp, coconut, and even usedcooking oils or animal fat. Biodiesel fuel is very lubricating,which makes it better for diesel engines than fuel.

Natural gas vehicles are also good. They have low emissionsof toxin and carbom dioxide ( CO

2), cost less to maintain and

fuel cost is also lower (about 1/3 less than petrol). During acrash, natural gas disperses into air while petrol pools on theground creating hazardous situation. However, to own anatural gas vehicle in Malaysia does not seem like a very goodidea for several reasons: the high cost of converting theengine; the limited number of filling stations in Malaysia 38

in all and most of them are in the Klang Valley; and the limitednumber of technicians to perform maintenance.
