INTRODUCTION

The Household Expenditure Survey (HES) was the first

conducted in the year 1957/1958. Beginning 1993/1994,

it was carried out at an interval of five years and the

recent survey was undertaken in 2009/2010. The survey

is covered private households in urban and rural areas.

The main objective of HES was to collect information

on the level and pattern of consumption expenditure by

households on a comprehensive range of goods and

services. The information served as the basis for

determining the goods and services to be included in the

basket of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). It was alsoused to represent the expenditure pattern of households

in Malaysia.

However, over the years, demand for data from the

survey has increased and it is now used for several

purposes. HES has becomes an invaluable source ofinformation for government and private section,

researchers and university students.

Comment

The family distribute monthly income evenly. In special categories such

as food, transportation and education, my father spends much. My

father will not let us stay in hunger and he will always ensure that we

are doing well in tests by buying us reference books. I appreciate his

contribution so much and I love him!

Comments:

Jun Hengs family spent most of his allocation of monthly income as hehas a few cars and his father spends a lot in his education for his better

future. Therefore, in order to afford the allocation, Jun Hengs father

works very hard. My fathers pay is not much as him so my family and I

are unable to spend much money on recreation and unnecessary stuffs.

I promise that Ill work hard for now to become a famous engineer in

the future to earn more money for my family!

Comments

All of the families in observe spent much of their income in education

category than in recreation category. This shows that the importance of

education in every family. However, recreation should also be carried

out to prevent excessive pressure among the family members.

Conclusion

The country which has high literacy level (the people are well educated) generally richer than

country which has low literacy level (the people are less educated). Obviously, education is that
