Diploma in Biotechnology (KPT/JPS(PA8003)05/21)

Biotechnology is a combination of biology and technology that uses cells and molecules to find solutions to human and environmental problems. The programme, Diploma in Biotechnology under the Faculty of Sciences provides a basic concept of biological molecules along with its application of cellular and biomolecular processes to solve systemic problems or make medicinal products. The programme teaches a wide range of skills that are valuable for careers in laboratory settings where they might help other workers in a variety of subjects, such as pharmaceutical, medical research, governmental and legal issues. The programme is designed as a transformative program, which offers education, training, and first-hand experience essential for successful careers. It is a study of foundational knowledge, skill, competence, creativity, innovative and research capability those are related to the needs of the students' future workplace with the emerging demands of biotechnological industry.

The main objective of the programme is to produce graduates who will have knowledge, technical skills, ethics and social responsibilities and attitude to adapt themselves with new technological advancement and challenges in Biotechnology.

Aims of Diploma in Biotechnology programme are:

To gain basic knowledge of Biotechnology and its application by using basic principles of chemistry, physics and mathematical analysis.

To provide necessary practical skills of various unit operations, unit processes and process instrumentation in process industry related to biochemical, bio fertilizers, pharmaceutical products.

To provide students with Biosafety skills in biotechnology and create an awareness of biohazard and occupational safety issues

To accumulate laboratory data and assist the supervisor for proper interpretation of scientific analysis of biotechnological laboratories and related industries.

To development of good interpersonal skills in order to have effective communication and business ethicstional and experimental methods and engineering applications.

Full Time : 30 Months

Part Time : 60 Months

1. January, 2. May, 3. September

Pass Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with three Credits in related Field or equivalent;

ORCertificate in a related Field.
