KNOWLEDGE OF INTERNET

Please be advised that MAS will computerise the staff travel department and all handling of staff travel will be on line. We have not been advised yet but for ZED travel you can read the notice at this Berita Masra.

ArgumentsA woman has the last word in any argument.Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

FUTUREA woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

A lion was getting married.

At his wedding was a mouse shouting away and congratulating the lion. “All the best, my brother. Good luck!”Hearing the mouse shouting away claiming that the lion getting married is his brother, another Lion grabs the mouse in anger and asks: “Who the hell do you think you are? How can a lion be your brother? You are only a mouse.”The Mouse replied: “I, too, was a Lion until I got married!”

Rye BreadTwo old guys, one 90 and one 87, were sitting on a park bench one morning. The 90 year-old had just finished his morning jog and wasn’t even short of breath. The 87 year-old was amazed at the guy’s stamina and asked him what he did to have so much energy. The 90-year-old said, “Well, I eat rye bread everyday. It keeps your energy level high and you’ll have great stamina with the ladies.” So, on the way home the 87-year-old stops at the bakery. As he was looking around the lady asked if he needed any help. He said, “Do you have any rye bread?” She said, “Yes, there’s a whole shelf of it. Would you like some?”

He said, “I want 5 loaves.” She said, “My goodness, 5 loaves. By the time you get to the 3rd loaf, it’ll be hard.” He replied, “I can’t believe it, everybody knows about this shit but me.”

WIFE VS. HUSBAND A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position.. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, ‘Relatives of yours?’ ‘Yep,’ the wife replied, ‘in-laws.’

CREATION A man said to his wife one day, ‘I don’t know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time.’ ‘The wife responded, ‘Allow me to explain. God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!

When Cape Town, Johannesburg-were part of MH routes from 1994, I believe many of our Masra members might have been to these two beautiful cities, in particular Cape Town, either on holiday, on business or on official duties and assignment. I believe all will agree with me that South Africa is a very beautiful country and Cape Town a very charming and captivating city. I was fortunate to be on the MAS inagural flight on 23rd Mar 1994 to Cape Town (MAS new routes then from KL-Johannsburg-Cape Town – Buenos Aires in Argentina). When the MAS aircraft landed at Cape Town International, the welcoming ceremony was truly fantastic for this inaugural flight!

edition of the world Airline Road Race 2013 at Cape Town. I quickly

took the opportunity, with a MASRA colleague Mr. Selvarajah to take part in

this WARR in Cape Town. We joined 21 runners from MAS Road Runners Club to participate in the race.

Since MAS have withdrawn the flight to Cape Town, all of us first took MH from KLIA to Dubai, a direct 61/2 hours flight. From Dubai we flew on Emirate Airlines to Cape Town a direct 91/2hr. flight. The flight was exhilirating, flying over from the north to the south of the African continent, and landed in Cape Town almost at the southern tip of Africa.

A NOSTALGIC JOURNEY TO CAPTIVATING CAPE TOWN

- SOUTH AFRICA

Cape Town in 1994 then was a rather laid-back quaint city. The airport’s terminal building appeared quite old and small, the two-lane road to Cape Town was devoid of traffic. We (me and MAS colleague then) visited the usual tourist sites in the city, especially BO-Kaap- the distinct and colourful Malay Quarters, the Victoria & Albert Waterfront. We couldn’t go up the famous Table Mountain then because the cable car was closed due to bad weather. Another site we visited was the Cape Peninsular National Park, but now the name has changed to Table Mountain National Park and it is here to you will see the Capeof Good Hope, popularly perceived as the meeting of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

Two decades later, last year in October 2013, I managed to visit Cape Town again. This was because South African Airways hosted the 32nd

What I saw two decades later, in October 2013 last year, was that International Airport has transformed into a very modern airport. with a new and much bigger terminal building – a spanking building of steel and glass, with aero-bridges, banks and other facilities. The new road to Cape Town City is a two –lane dual carriage way now quite heavy with traffic.Cape Town has also changed, now with more budget and premier hotels and commercial bui;dings. As the weather was quite cold, we enjoyed walking for hours

around the city, trying to visit as many interesting sites as possible. The attractive area like Bo-Kaap or “Malay Quarter” with its quaint narrow streets and colorful buildings, mosques and small shops selling spices, etc.

Next on our must visit list was the most striking and world famous Table Mountain, frequently shrouded by clouds, and rearing from the middle of the city. We went to the cable car station early so as not to miss the ride to the summit of Table Mountain. Most often in the afternoon, the wind could be strong and thick clouds covering the summit and the cable car could be closed. This majestic sandstone Table Mountain is Cape Town most famous landmark and is 1086m

bistros, restaurants souvenir shops and more tourists. We intended to buy ferry ticckets to the famous Robben Island where the place was used during the apartheid days to hold political prisoners including Nelson Mandela. We were disappointed we couldn’t get the tickets as theywere fully booked for the next two days. Nearby V & A Waterfront is the beautiful football stadium – shape like a bowl- constructed for the World Cup when South Africa hosted the game in the year 2000.

Visiting Cape Town one will not miss going to the Cape Point, the Natural World Heritage Site. It is here you will see the Cape of Good Hope where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic Ocean, and the Most South- Western Point of the African Continent. The weather being so pleasant, clear blue sky, crisp cool air, it was truly invigorating where we spent hours trekking up and down the hills, from Cape of Good Hope, CapePoint, the Lighthouse and other sites.

After almost a day in Cape Peninsula, all of us runners proceeded to Stellenbosch, a beautiful inland town amidst wineland, about 40 km from Cape Town. It was here we all took part in the World Road Race 2013.

high. The circular shape cable car carries a whopping 65 visitors at a time, and it’s design is unique in that its floor can rotate, giving everyone 360 degree panoramic views of the city harbour and the oceans beyond. At the summit there are several walkways where one can walk about to several vantage viewing points. Although the views were fantastic it was rather cold with the cold winds blowing into our faces!

The other famous tourist site is the Victoria & Albert Waterfront. I noticed the area has more shops,

My visit to Cape Town last year - to take part in the WARR - was truly a kind of a nostalgic journey, seeing and experiencing all the beautiful sites for a second time. According to” Lonely Planet “ The Travel Guide, Cape Town is considered one of the most beautiful city harbours in the world. So dear fellows, if you intend to visit captivating Cape Town for holidays, and if you need any information, you can email to me at - [email protected] and I would be pleased to assist. Part of a speech by P.P. Ramachandran, Post graduate in Economics from the Bombay University,

after serving the Reserve Bank for forty years. The alternative to these are functional options. The first is become a Consultant.Lurking inside every executive is a Consultant. But for this, considerable expertise is required. Not everyone can be successful as a consultant. The second option is to start your own Business or Industry. But this calls for entrepreneurial qualities which an executive may lack. Many are also faced withthe finances to start and sustain a business and stay profitable. The third option is to involve oneself in professional activities. For this, one must build up one’s position even before retirement. Many cliques operate to prevent outsiders from encroachment. The fourth is to get into spiritual activities. While nobody is required between you and God, nowadays we fnd more and more godmen, swamijis pseudo Gurus some even US returned. There is a temptation to follow some Swamiji or even become one yourself. This is a very slippery slope. Beware- there are more hoaxes in the religious field than enywhere else! The last and most meaningful option is to cultivate a hobby.Use your creative abilities and do something that you enjoy doing. You should start this even while in service. We live in three Boxes.First is the Box of Learning, which starts from birth and goes on till 20 plus.Second is the Box of Work which commences at the 20 plus and goes on up to 58 or 60- the age of retirement.Third is the of Box of Leisure. When we are in the Box of Work what is significant is Status, Prestige, Power- all these we aspire for and it is what we get from working life. The more we get, the happier we are. The day we retire, we move into Box 3- the one of leisure. If we have to enjoy this we have to change our psychological position and appreciate creativity, autonomy and integrity. When you were a small child or two or three, did status, prestige or money mean anything? What you wanted was autonomy, creativity. A child is always creative. It enjoys creativity. One example. When visitors come you ask your child, “Pushpa - Sing Twinkle Twinkle

Little Star”. She will not sing. You shout at her. You tell your visitors proudly she is three only and knows twelve nursery songs. The moment the quests are gone and your maid comes for cleaning, your daughter will sing to her all the twelve songs. The child has her own values!By the time we enter the Box of Work, values change. We are not taught to respect our autonomy but fall in line - conformity is the rule. If the son plays the violin, his mother will come and tell him, “Playing the Violin now? Study now. Your exam is coming and you must do well. Getting into university and getting a good education is so very important. Life is competitive, dear son.”When we enter the Box of Leisure, values change. Your psycological position has to change too. New values of creativity, integrity and autonomy emerge. Hobbies are an excellent way of getting Leisure Value. Everybody must identify his hobby that he can enjoy. Don’t bother about Power Prestige and Status. An Individual can live in one box only or interchange or combine the boxes. You can have learning, work and leisure together. One can even take up a hobby that is financially productive. As time passes one learns. The real problem of retirement is that people refuse to face the problem. The mantra is “Let us cross the bridge when we come to it.” This is not correct and is not encouraged. Since we live in three Boxes we must prepare ourselves for crossing from one to the other. Structuring our time is the prime requirement. In the beginning, you are contributing to Value. Think of Transfer Value. After retirement you can think of Leisure Value. Develop good hobbies which incorporates your creativity, autonomy and integrity. I have taken to writing. (Rajaji, Kalam and H.R.F. Keating)

LIVING HAPPILY AFTER RETIREMENT You will lead a happy life.Retirement is not adding “Years to your Life but adding Llife to your Years”. Retirement is not a calamity but an opportunity.I would like to advocate some basic qualities one must cultivate. There are two ways to look at every situation in life. Is the cup half empty or is the cup half full. One man was not worried about him becoming bald. He declared “ I have less hair to comb! “ Another man in an identical
