Bhd. dan Affin Holdings Berhad telah membuka booth pameran bagi mempamerkan aktiviti, perkhidmatan serta produk masing-masing sempena Program Pengiktirafan Veteran 1Malaysia baru-baru ini. Majlis program pengiktirafan tersebut telah dirasmikan oleh Y.A.B. Perdana Menteri Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak pada 15 Disember 2012 di Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Program tersebut bertujuan untuk memberi bantuan holistik kepada veteran Angkatan Tentera Malaysia dengan memanfaatkan sumber-sumber di agensi kerajaan dan sektor swasta melalui latihan dan penempatan pekerjaan, peluang perniagaan dan membantu keluarga. Quality Assurance (LRQA) on 23 October 2012. Boustead Sissons' General Manager, En. Megat Joha received the ISO 9001-2008 certificate from LRQA’s representative, En. Mohd Azhar Sulaiman in a ceremony held at Nilai Factory on 12 November 2012. The ISO 9001 certification was awarded to Boustead Sissons after a series of trainings, effective implementation of programmes and proper assessments by LRQA.

Staf Boustead yang dihargai, Semakin kita menghampiri detik terakhir penghujung tahun 2012, kita patut banyak bersyukur lebih-lebih lagi apabila berhadapan dengan keadaan ekonomi dunia yang masih tidak menentu ketika ini. Syukur alhamdulillah, ekonomi Malaysia mampu bertahan dan kita dapat mengekalkan keputusan yang baik di saat tidak menentu ini. Prestasi kita pada suku ketiga tahun kewangan ini menyaksikan peningkatan ketara di mana keuntungan selepas cukai telah meningkat dengan baik sebanyak 91% berbanding suku sebelumnya. Dear fellow Bousteadians,

As we come to the close of 2012, we have much to be grateful for, more so as the world economy continues to be an uncertain one. Fortunately, Malaysia’s economy has been able to pull through and deliver sustained results during these very uncertain times.

Our third quarter performance for this financial year saw a significant improvement with a commendable 91% jump in profit after tax compared with the preceding quarter. This is testament to the fact that we are cognisant of the need to deliver shareholder value. Our sterling results

were primarily driven by our Plantation Division, while almost all our other Divisions also delivered improved results for this financial year.

Towards the end of the last quarter and in an effort to consolidate our building materials businesses, the Group undertook a privatisation exercise of UAC Berhad. We successfully received shareholders’ approval and are at the tail end of this exercise.

As we look towards the New Year which will certainly bring uncertainty given the global economic conditions, we have to remain resilient and steadfast to work harder and improve on our performance. I look forward to your continued dedication in the year ahead.

On 27 September 2012 at 8.30 a.m., an EC225 helicopter leased by MHS Aviation Berhad (MHS) from Vietnam Helicopters South (VNHS) departed VungTau airport in Vietnam and arrived in Kerteh, Terengganu at 12.20 p.m. later that day.

The arrival of the helicopter marks a record time for MHS for making a foreign helicopter operational. The process began on 9 August 2012 when Petronas awarded the contract to MHS and began operating on 1 October 2012. This represents a time-frame of only 52 days, which was made possible due to the close cooperation between MHS and VNHS.

The lease was signed in VungTau on 26 September by MHS’ Executive Director, En. Mohsein Ma’som, and VNHS' General Director, Capt. Vi Cong Dung. This increases MHS' fleet of EC225 to six aircraft and MHS has so far clocked more than 11,000 hours on EC225 since taking delivery of the first helicopter in January 2011.

This helicopter which carries the registration number 9M-STK, is the third helicopter to be leased from VNHS within the last five years. With this contract, MHS and VNHS hope to continue their long term partnership and also sustain the positive ties between Malaysia and Vietnam. Other projects both companies have worked together on have been in Miri, Sarawak and Dili, East Timor.

Pharmaniaga signs MoU with Pusat Pakar Dialysis Traktif

Pharmaniaga Berhad (Pharmaniaga), through its subsidiary Pharmaniaga Marketing Sdn. Bhd. has

signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pusat Pakar Dialysis Traktif Sdn. Bhd. (PPDT) on 23 October 2012 to collaborate in facilitating the establishment of new dialysis centres under the Sayang Dialysis franchise. The MoU was witnessed by Deputy Health Minister, Y.B. Datuk Rosnah Abd Rashid Shirlin, who also officiated a seminar on haemodialysis themed 'Safety & Challenges' organised by Pharmaniaga on the same day. With the MoU, Pharmaniaga aims to reach out to dialysis patients by providing high-end Bellco haemodialysis machines and disposable items to all centres under the Sayang Dialysis flagship. Currently, there are six Sayang Dialysis centres throughout the country and one centre each is being planned for Kota Bharu and Kota Kinabalu. Since April this year, Pharmaniaga has successfully installed 18 units of Bellco machines at several dialysis centres and through this MoU, Pharmaniaga will supply an additional 14 more units to Sayang Dialysis centres by year end. Pharmaniaga's Managing Director, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Farshila Emran said, “The MoU is in line with the Government’s aspiration to provide high quality treatment at an affordable price, thus making excellent healthcare accessible to all.”

BN 2012 (BN Youth Job Fair 2012) yang berlangsung pada 16 - 18 November 2012 di Dewan Tun Razak 1, PWTC, Kuala Lumpur. Sebanyak 240 buah agensi kerajaan dan swasta telah membuka booth pameran sempena karnival tersebut bagi merangsang lebih kurang 40,000 peluang pekerjaan dan 5,000 peluang latihan kepada golongan belia yang masih mencari peluang pekerjaan.

Majlis telah dirasmikan oleh Menteri Dalam Negeri, Y.B. Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein pada 17 November 2012. Beliau serta Pengerusi Pemuda BN, Y.B. Professor Christine Ennew has been appointed the new Provost and Pro-

Vice-Chancellor for Internationalisation of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC).

Professor Ennew took over from Professor Ian Pashby who after nearly five years at the helm, has moved to the University of Hull as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Engagement.

Professor Ennew has been at the heart of Nottingham’s ambitious internationalisation programme for many years - spending significant periods of time in China and the wider Asia-Pacific region. She currently manages the University’s international strategy which has attracted students and academic staff from almost 150 nations to its research and teaching campuses in Britain and Asia. She took a leading role in the development of the Malaysia Campus when it was first established in Kuala Lumpur in 2000 and between 2008 and 2011 she had oversight responsibility for the continuing development and integration of Nottingham’s historic campuses in China and Malaysia.

Professor Ennew said, “We need to focus on balanced growth in an increasingly competitive environment. We have to ensure we get the right subject mix and that we continue to enhance the student experience. We also need to strengthen our research activity by building on the core strengths of the University of Nottingham, working in areas of direct relevance to the development of the Malaysian economy and in partnership with Malaysian universities.” Professor Pashby said, “It has been a challenging, exciting and very rewarding five years in which I have overseen a growth in student numbers, range of subjects offered and research activity. Student numbers have increased from 2,700 to over

4,400 and the campus has been recognised by the Malaysian Government for the quality of both its teaching and research. Continuous investment in infrastructure and services has seen the student experience improve year on year. UNMC is a vibrant academic community with over 70 nationalities represented amongst the student body. I am proud of what the staff have achieved over recent years and I feel very privileged to have been part of UNMC’s continuing success." “I will be very sad to leave behind so many friends and colleagues and a country which I have grown to love. The family has had so many wonderful adventures since arriving in Asia but they are now looking forward to returning to the UK and the new challenges that lie ahead. My new role at Hull will be particularly special for me as I am moving to my home-town University,” he added.

The University of Nottingham’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Greenaway said, “When The University of Nottingham established a campus in Malaysia, the move was certainly visionary. Just 80 students walked through the doors when the campus opened in 2000. Since then thousands of students of all nationalities have reaped the benefits of gaining a British degree after studying on the other side of the world." "It is a major undertaking for our academics and staff who move, often with their families, half way around the world to embrace new challenges and cultures and I want to thank Professor Pashby for his commitment and dedication. His tenure of nearly five years has seen our campus in Malaysia go from strength to strength and we wish him and his family the very best for the future,” he added. The University of Nottingham’s links with Malaysia date back to the 1940s when the first Malaysian students travelled across the globe to enrol on courses in the UK. Now Malaysian students can gain a Nottingham degree in their home country.

Below is an excerpt of the interview with Tristan on 6 September 2012.

Tristan, tell us a little bit about yourself.Hi, I am Tristan Frederick Roper-Caldbeck. I am 19 years old and I am originally from the county of Leicestershire, England. I am a student at the University of Nottingham in the UK, majoring in Business Management. After the break, I will be spending my second academic year at Nottingham’s Campus in Ningbo, China.

Is it by coincidence that you chose Nottingham University as your place of study or did you already know about Boustead’s partnership with Nottingham before joining the University?I did not. I learnt about the partnership only after joining the University from the globalisation talks advertised on the University of Nottingham’s website.

Do you have any hobbies or special interests? I am a keen musician, and play tennis and squash. I also enjoy travelling.

Is this your first visit to Malaysia and what brings you here? Yes, it is my first visit. I wanted to do some travelling around Asia before heading up to China. I have been to Dubai, Thailand and Singapore. From Singapore, I then took the train to Kuala Lumpur.

Did you make any connection with Boustead while you were in Singapore? No, I did not. I wanted to see where the footprint of the headquarters of Boustead & Co. used to be in Collier Quay and a businessman directed me to the site. I just wanted to see what was located there now since the original building was demolished in the 1970s.

Did you find anything there?I found a huge skyscraper in its place, so locating it was difficult.

Tristan, what brings you here to Boustead now? Why are you so keen to know about us? I am actually trying to find motivation and inspiration from this visit. It is nice to learn about the past and what has been achieved and

worked in the London office, as Senior Partner, dividing his time between his London home and Garroch, his Scottish Estate until he passed away in 1907. He was 74 years old. By then both of his sons Arthur and Bertie were partners in the business.

Tell us about your other family member, Iain Mark Roper-Caldbeck who used to work with Barlow Boustead Estates. What is your relationship with him?Iain is my great grandfather’s nephew. He was with Edward Boustead & Co. Ltd., rubber planters between 1960 and 1966. He joined Barlow Boustead Estates Agency Sdn. Bhd. in 1966 and retired in 1980.

How was he related to Jasper Young?Iain is the eldest son of Brig. Gen. William Roper-Caldbeck, Jasper’s grandson. Jasper’s daughter, Alice Mary Young married Major William Roper-Caldbeck in 1898.

Where is Iain Mark Roper-Caldbeck now?Iain who is 75 years old now is retired and lives with his family in Edinburgh.

Did any of your family members ever return to Malaysia?None of them ever returned to work after ties were severed with Boustead Holdings Berhad, although my great uncle Rory was closely involved as Vice Chairman and later Chairman

of Boustead Plc., based in London and Singapore. The family is quite scattered now, with some in the United Kingdom, Thailand, Australia and the United States - although, my uncle, Jasper Nicholas Roper-Caldbeck still lives and farms the estate in Scotland, originally purchased by Jasper in the 1890s.

Do you know any of the Edward Boustead family? No, but I do know that he had a daughter, Nellie Boustead. She married William Niven and they had a son, who went on to become the father of the famous actor, David Niven.

Well Tristan, thank you for sharing the history of Jasper Young, Edward Boustead and the company. Before we end our interview, perhaps you would like to say something about Boustead? First of all, I would like to thank you so much for accommodating me for the past three days. It was a unique opportunity to gain insight into a diverse range of sectors from one of Malaysia’s oldest trading companies, which is of particular interest to me because of my family connection. Boustead has really evolved and developed over the years and the operation is huge. Although it was a fairly substantial trading house back then, it has clearly diversified and expanded to cover hotels, shipbuilding, property, pharmaceutical, aviation etc. It is really amazing!

Berita Boustead had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Tristan Roper-Caldbeck, a British student who visited Boustead recently.

Tristan has ties with Boustead through his great, great, great grandfather Jasper Young, a senior partner to Edward Boustead. Another member of his family, Iain Mark Roper-Caldbeck was also with Barlow Boustead Estates Agency from 1966 to 1980.

The visit was requested by Tristan who expressed a keen interest in learning about how Boustead has evolved over the years. During his 3-day visit to Boustead from 4 - 6 September 2012, Tristan was given extensive tours and presentations of the company’s various operations and developments. He had the opportunity to visit Menara Boustead, the Curve and the Mutiara Damansara area, The Royale Bintang The Curve, The Royale Bintang Damansara, The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus and Balau Estate in Semenyih.

what can be achieved. I have brought along some documents on Boustead that I would like to share with you. There are probably many more documents, which were kept in the London/Singapore offices. Indeed, the family lost many of the historic documents in the 1930s following a fire that destroyed our home in Scotland (that was in the time of Arthur Young, the senior partner in the business and the eldest son of Jasper Young).

Who has been keeping this information on Boustead?Just my family - my great grandparents and my parents.

When did you actually become interested in Boustead?Quite some time ago, since my time in school. My grandmother has written a few books on our family, which included the Boustead connection, when my great grandfather George Reginald Roper-Caldbeck was the Chairman. Also my father worked for the business in the 1980s primarily in the manufacturing divisions in England, and my interest has sort of kept growing from there.

Tell us about your great, great, great grandfather, Jasper Young. How did he meet Edward Boustead and when did he join Boustead?Jasper was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland in 1833. He met Edward Boustead in London after seeing an advertisement offering jobs to young people willing to go out to the Far East to join one of the many trading houses there. But as he was too young at that time, about 18 years old, he was told to come back and apply for the job when he was older. Much to the amazement of Edward Boustead, Jasper returned as instructed at the age of 22. Boustead was so impressed with his tenacity and determination and strong character that he offered him a posting to Singapore and he readily accepted, joining the firm of Boustead & Co. in 1850. Jasper was made a partner in 1860.

What happened then?On Edward Boustead’s death in 1888, Jasper Young became senior partner and Boustead & Co. was passed through generations of my family. The sequence of Chairman was broadly as follows: Edward Boustead, Jasper Young, Arthur Young, George Reginald Roper-Caldbeck and Harry Bertram Roper-Caldbeck.

In the 1970s, the Group was reorganised into the following sub-groups: Boustead Ltd. (London), Bousteadco Singapore Ltd., Boustead Holdings Berhad and Boustead Australia Ltd. George Reginald and Harry Bertram, orchestrated the transfer of Boustead Holdings Berhad to Malaysian investors in 1976. However, family involvement continued with Boustead Plc. in London and Singapore, until 1986, when my great uncle, Michael Rory Roper-Caldbeck, stepped down as Chairman.

paintball ‘bullets’ to do just that. After a short briefing on precaution measures and how to use the paintball gun, we were ready to battle it out on the paintball

field under the hot sun. And who would have thought that a mere 10 minutes of paintball would be such an intense work-out? It was that moment of truth when each and every one of us realised just how fit (or unfit) we were.

After lunch, we continued our fun filled day with an archery session. Firing an arrow wasn’t as easy as it looked. Steady hand-eye coordination

comes only with plenty of practice.

We wrapped up our teambuilding session with a tele-match. From balloon buster to brick relay, from giant slippers to tug of war, the

field was full of laughter, racing, and even a few eccentric moments of embarrassment. Win or lose, everyone had a good time!

3rd day (9 October 2012)

On our last day, we visited the Jelita Ostrich Show Farm, the largest show farm in South-East Asia and home to more

than 80 ostriches. During the tour at the farm, we learnt about the lifecycle of the ostrich, as well as the do’s and

1st day (7 October 2012)

Our journey to Seremban began on Friday morning of 7 October. On the way, we detoured to the royal town of Seri Menanti to visit the famed ancient palace ‘Istana Seri Menanti,’ now converted into a museum. The palace was a classic showcase of Minangkabau structure and design. The roof was built with ‘scissor-shaped’ points which are said to represent buffalo horns and most interestingly, the palace was built with neither nail nor screw! Amazing!

After peeking inside the life of the royal family, their personal collection of photos and weaponry and admiring the beautiful architecture as well as the panoramic view of Seri Menanti, we made our way to our hotel for lunch and to rest.

Later in the evening, we had our bowling tournament. Everyone was very competitive, so it was a fight to the end to witness which group was going to be the winner.

2nd day (8 October 2012)

We spent most of our second day at the Eagle Ranch Resort, engaging in various fun packed and energetic teambuilding activities such as go-kart, paintball, archery and tele-match.

The go-kart session was the perfect chance to show off our rally and drifting skills. During the race, we learned to overcome obstacles as we sped, braked and cornered down the winding track. We could feel the rush of our heart pounding as we raced through the 350m track. No untoward incidents, but with lots of sharp turning points, you just have to be careful!

The paintball session was intensely absorbing. Split into two groups, each team was given the task of ‘capturing’ the opponent’s flag and we could unleash a hail of

chance to greet these big birds, stood on their large eggs and even rode on them. Almost all of our team members braved themselves to try out this hard to come by experience. They were rewarded with a certificate after each successful ride. After the ride, we moved on to the race course to watch an ostrich race demonstrated by the farm workers. We also stopped by an Ostrich souvenir shop and tried out Ostrich satay.

We then proceeded to Nilai 3 to have lunch and to do some quick shopping. After Nilai 3, we continued our journey back home.

The teambuilding event was hailed as a success, considering that everybody had a good time, built stronger ties, and returned with happy memories and not forgetting lots of snapshots.

To experience some glitter, the GHCM team visited the Phuket Gemstone Factory, which is the world’s biggest jewellery store. They were able to observe the intricate process of jewellery making and were given the opportunity to visit the jewellery showroom.

It was also an educational visit when the GHCM team paid a visit to Sri Bhurapa Orchid

Phuket which is the first cashew nut factory in Phuket. The tour of the factory provided insights on cashew nut processing stages. They were able to sample ‘Cashewy’ which is cashew nut juice, believed to have valuable medicinal properties and also the different and unique

flavours of cashew nuts such as tom yam, chocolate, nori, butter, honey, and garlic flavour.

The GHCM team’s visit to Phuket was also filled with adventurous activities, whereby they had the opportunity to go island hopping at Phang Nga Bay. The first stop was Panak Island where they had the chance to explore the Ice Cream Cave, which was a limestone cave with ice-cream-like formation. They also visited the famous James Bond Island and Khao Ping Kan, which were both featured in the James Bond movie - The Man with the Golden Gun. After that, they experienced thrilling sea canoeing activity on Tulu Island. The team was also given the opportunity to see up-close a Muslim floating village when they had lunch on Panyee Island. They continued their journey to Hong Island to see the strange and beautiful stalactites of the island. They were also given a

chance to swim and relax by the beach on Lawa Island. It was indeed a wonderful experience and they were able to test their team's spirit and team support amongst members.

The GHCM team's trip to Phuket was indeed a fun and memorable one. They left Phuket with an amazing experience and unforgettable memories, and most importantly, the opportunity to get to know each member of the team better, outside the office setting.

Boustead Holdings Berhad’s Group Human Capital Management (GHCM) Department staff

recently took time off from their busy schedule for a departmental trip to Phuket, Thailand in October 2012. The objective of the trip was to strengthen the bonds between staff by exploring new experience in a foreign land. The trip was filled with exciting activities and visits to the island’s fascinating attractions.

Known as the ‘Pearl of the Andaman’, Phuket is Thailand’s largest island. It is a province located in the southern part of the country, surrounded by beautiful sandy beaches, amazing landscapes, greenery and culture.

During the tour, the GHCM team visited Wat Chalong, the largest Buddhist temple in Phuket. They also passed by Rawai Beach to catch a glimpse of the Sea Gypsy Village. The team also had an opportunity to visit the renowned Promthep Peninsular to enjoy its breathtaking scenery.

Pada 3 November 2012, Pharmaniaga Berhad (Pharmaniaga) telah menyerahkan 'mock' cek berjumlah RM250,000.00 yang

merupakan sebahagian daripada bayaran zakat perniagaannya kepada Unit Zakat, Sedekah & Wakaf, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) di majlis Malam Simfoni Kasih anjuran UiTM. Boustead Plantations Berhad (Boustead Plantations) recently contributed a cheque amounting to RM100,000.00 to En. Norhaimi Izlan Kamarudin,

Assistant Manager/Engineer of Telok Sengat Palm Oil Mill who was diagnosed with spinal cord tumor in the thoracic region.

Norhaimi who joined the company three years ago was diagnosed with the disease in August 2011. Since then, he has become paraplegic and is unable to perform his duties. Boustead Plantations’ Director, En. Shoib Abdullah, handed over the cheque to him in an event held on 12 October 2012 at the Telok Sengat staff quarters, Nanyo Division, Johor. Present at the event were his parents, Telok Sengat Mill Manager and Telok Sengat Estate Manager.

As part of Boustead Plantations’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we hope the contribution will help ease his financial burden in the near future.

million and the appeal, which has reached £81 million has gone global. The University has established two charitable foundations to support the work of its pioneer international campuses in Malaysia and Ningbo, China. The aim is to help talented students, particularly those in financial need to develop young academic talents and to grow the University’s research priorities across the world with the aim of changing lives, tackling global issues and shaping the future.

Pharmaniaga prihatin terhadap pelajar asnaf

A simultaneous building evacuation drill was held on 5 December 2012 for Menara Boustead and Wisma

Boustead. The exercise involved about 1,000 occupants consisting of tenants, fire marshals, building maintenance team, security personnel as well as the Emergency Response Team.

The drill was supervised by Jabatan Bomba Dan Penyelamat Pusat Kuala Lumpur with the help of the Traffic Police Kuala Lumpur and Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah. Jabatan Bomba declared the drill a success, as the occupants from Menara Boustead and Wisma Boustead took 24 minutes and 5 minutes respectively to complete the evacuation drill.

A ‘post mortem’ session was held immediately after the exercise chaired by Fire Officer, En. Aminuudin. He stressed

the importance of all occupants in the building to participate seriously in such exercise. Among his observation during the exercise, he noted that some tenants tried to return to their office to collect their belongings as soon as they realised it was only a drill. Also,

Mutiara Rini Sdn. Bhd. (Mutiara Rini) recently bid farewell to two

of its long serving senior employees, Mr. John Paul Rajoo and En. Che Hanif Harun during a farewell high tea get-together held in their honour on 12 December 2012 at The Royale Bintang Damansara hotel.

The farewell gathering was attended by Mutiara Rini's Director, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Ghazali Mohd Ali; Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Cheah Swee Choo; Senior General Manager, Ir. Hj. Khushairi Mohd Hashim; fellow colleagues and other guests from Group Administration and Communications Department, Boustead Curve Sdn. Bhd., e@Curve and Boustead Realty Sdn. Bhd.

The event saw Dato’ Ghazali delivering his speech, thanking John and Che Hanif for their invaluable contributions during their tenure with the company. As a token of appreciation, Dato’ Ghazali presented John and Che Hanif with retirement rewards.

John and Che Hanif also gave touching farewell speeches as they bid goodbye to their colleagues and peers in Boustead.

John, a Manager in the Marketing & Sales Department, joined Boustead's Property Division in February 1995 at the age of 40. He was very much involved in the property developments of both Mutiara Rini in Skudai Johor and Mutiara Damansara, one of the Division’s most successful projects

which he considered close to his heart.

Che Hanif, a Project Executive at Mutiara Rini was based in the Mutiara Damansara office for almost 16 years. His first assigned project was Mutiara Damansara, which gave him valuable experiences. Their retirement plans include travelling, spending more quality time with their families and taking up interests and hobbies. Most important, they wish to lead a simple stress-free life.

On behalf of the management and staff of Mutiara Rini, we would like to wish both John and Che Hanif a happy retirement and all the best in their endeavours!

A similar evacuation drill was conducted at Surian Tower on the same day and the same lack of urgency attitude had been observed and highlighted by Bomba. An evacuation drill was also conducted at Curve NX on 7 November 2012 whereby the occupants took 12 minutes to evacuate instead of 7 minutes as recommended by Bomba.

menjadi orang pertama dalam kumpulan kami untuk sampai ke puncak setinggi 4,095.2 meter dari paras laut itu pada jam 4.30 pagi.

Walaupun telah berada di puncak, kami berasa sungguh kerdil di sisiNya dan bersyukur kerana berjaya mengharungi pelbagai cabaran. Daripada 23 peserta,

cuma 13 peserta sahaja yang berjaya sampai ke puncak. Rakan kami, Rohaini gagal akibat demam.

Kami meneruskan pendakian pada jam 10.30 pagi untuk ke Laban Rata sejauh 6 k.m. Cabaran kami bermula seawal pendakian di mana kami telah diuji dengan suhu sejuk serta hujan lebat sehingga langkah kami perlu dipercepatkan. Tekanan atmosfera yang semakin rendah menyebabkan kami rasa tidak selesa, sukar bernafas, pening dan muntah. Bagaimanapun disebabkan semangat yang kuat, kami meneruskan pendakian dan akhirnya tiba di Laban Rata pada jam 2.30 petang.

Kira-kira 2.7 k.m. sebelum sampai ke puncak, kami perlu mendaki lereng curam berbatu licin dengan menggunakan tali untuk mengelakkan daripada tergelincir. Cuaca yang sangat sejuk sehingga menusuk ke tulang rusuk ketika itu, menyukarkan kami untuk menggenggam jari mahupun membuka mulut.

Keadaan masih lagi gelap ketika kami meneruskan pendakian seawal 2.30 pagi. Sebaik sahaja berjaya menjejakkan kaki di puncak, kami berasa amat gembira, teruja dan bersyukur kerana diberi kekuatan untuk pendakian ini.

Kami juga kagum dengan sifat ‘porter’ yang mengambil upah menggalas beg pendaki yang begitu cekal dan bersemangat mendaki walaupun terpaksa membawa beban berat demi mencari sesuap nasi. Kecekalan beberapa orang pendaki warga emas dari pelbagai bangsa juga mengagumkan kami sekaligus menerbitkan keinsafan dalam diri bahawa kita mampu melakukan apa juga yang diingini jika memiliki disiplin, kemahuan, ketabahan serta tidak gentar menghadapi cabaran.

Pada 14 dan 15 Oktober 2012, seramai 23 orang peserta termasuk lima

peserta dari Boustead Curve Sdn. Bhd. (Badrul Hisham Hamzah, Muhammad Asyraf Md Hosni, Roslan Mohamad, Abdul Karim Ahmad dan Rohaini Mustafa) telah menyertai ekspedisi mendaki Gunung Kinabalu anjuran ER Dimension.

Ia merupakan pengalaman yang berharga di mana setiap peserta berpeluang menyaksikan keindahan Gunung Kinabalu serta pelbagai jenis flora dan fauna yang menarik di sepanjang laluan menuju ke puncak.

Subhanallah, hasrat kami untuk melihat sendiri kebesaran Allah SWT tercapai sebaik sahaja hari beransur cerah. Pepohon nampak berbalam, pemandangan di bawah kelihatan kecil sekali dan kepulan awan berada di bawah tapak kaki kami. Keletihan mendaki lenyap seketika apabila menyaksikan pemandangan yang indah ini.
