Appendix 6: Human Resources Development

A. Attachment and Training Programme

i. Attachment at National Fish Health Research Centre in Batu Maung, Penang On, 12th – 19th March 2009, science officer from Aquatic Organisms Health Unit, Suhairi Mazelan attended one week attachment training at National Fish Health Research Centre (NaFish) in Batu Maung, Penang. His training focused on methods to study the life cycle of Caligus sp. on Lates calcarifer (seabass) supervised by Dr. Kua Beng Chu which is a very interesting experience for him. Mr. Suhairi gained a lot of theoretical and practical knowledge through his training and these experiences will help him to conduct his own project at the AKUATROP.

ii. Training in The Armidale Animal Breeding Summer Course 2009: Quantitative Genetic Theory And Analysis: Selection Theory

This course attended by Norainy Mohd Hussin at University of New England, Armidale, New

South Wales, Australia. Armidale is a small town located 535 km from Sydney. A total of 23 participants from different parts of the world had attended this five days training course (2nd – 6th February 2009). The course was conducted by a very well known geneticist, Prof. Bruce Walsh from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona, Tucson, USA. This training is aimed for people who work on selective breeding programs either for plants or animals.
