    are 2 major factors that can usuallyinfluence a golfers performance. Theyare fit physique and consistency interms of skill.

    A fit physique is a must as

    these golfers will need to walk aroundthe courses to complete their round ofgame. However, consistency in skillusually increases the opportunity forgolfers to win the game as a golf tour-nament generally lasts for few days.

    Typically, a good golfer has thecombination of both factors. Mr. Zaidialso added, Every team has their ownstrength. It seems too early to tell. Letsjust wait and see.

    Malaysian Dance

    Geographically, Malaysiaconsists of a peninsular (WestMalaysia) and 2 states on theisland of Borneo (Sabah and Sara-wak) situated in South East Asia.

    With a history that is filledwith passing travellers andtradesmen, Malaysia boasts amulti-racial population that ispredominantly Malay (60%),Chinese (30%), Indian (5%) andother minority races like theArabs, Portuguese, Eurasians andso on making up the rest. Aunique blend of numerous races,each with its rich culture and heri-tage, and a strong influence fromits neighbours Indonesia andThailand, has formed the founda-tion of a very lively dance culture.

    Court Dance, Folk Danceof West Malaysia and East Malay-sia are practiced and performedwidely and is now also being seenas a very real tourist araction.However far away form the shop-ping malls, these dances are still

    being kept alive by the traditionalmasters (though their numbersare decreasing) in an ever chang-ing world of computer and infor-mation technology.

    Indonesia emerged as the cham-pion for the final long jump eventfor the boys category this morningat the National Sports Councilfield. The Indonesian athlete,Noval, jumped 7.29 metres. Thesecond placing went to Malaysia(7.03 metres) and the third went toThailand (7.00 metres). All threecontingents performed amazinglyin their quest to be the best.

    Vietnam won the gold medal inthe Womens 3,000 metres trackevent today. Nguyen Thi BichTram completed the race in 10minutes and 14.13 seconds,seing a new ASEAN SchoolsGames record. Trailing closebehind was Indonesias AfrianaPao in 10 minutes and 15.56seconds, and the bronze medalwent to Thailands Kitsana Toen-tuan who completed the race in10 minutes and 33.43 seconds.

    Thailands Women Artistic Gymnas-tics (W.A.G.) Team repeated theirmens achievement by becoming

    champion of the event.They clinched the goldmedal in a closelyfought competitionwith an overall score of197.800 points. Malay-

    sia won the silvermedal with the score197.550 points. TheSingaporean contin-gent grabbed the bronze medal with ascore of 183.150 points.The performance of theThai team with their

    graceful swings, sharp turns andsmooth landings vowed the specta-tors and judges alike.

    Vietnamese gymnasts were atthe National Sports Council at8 am to practise for the MenArtistic Gymnastics (M.A.G.)individual event. They weregearing up to grab moremedals as they had bagged bronze medals for M.A.G.team event yesterday. Theypractised with great determi-nation to polish their tech-niques such as jumps andswings. One of the athletes, Phamvan Andreas, felt satisfied and happywith his teams performance yester-day. He hopes that his team will

    perform beer in the next event andwishes his contingent the best of luck.

    The two rounds of games were indeed excit-ing. Scores recorded were varied and far between. In the boys category, Malaysiangolfer Low Khai Jei had the best round with ascore of 140. Similarly, Kelly Tan Guat Chenwho is also from Malaysia recorded the bestscore of 145 for the gi rls category. At the sametime, the Malaysian boys team ranked at no. 1with a total score of 585. Likewise, the Malay-sian girls team, too recorded the best totalscore of 454. Another exciting round of golfawaits tomorrow.

    Director of the Selangor State Educa-tion Department presented theprizes for the first session and MrAkhyar, Chef De Mission of theIndonesian contingent did thehonour for the second session.

    The ASG2 swimming competitionofficially started yesterday at theDarul Ehsan Aquatic Centre, ShahAlam with seven countries participat-ing. The competition started with theparticipation of seven cheer groupssupporting the participating countries.

    The cheer groups, comprising38 students in each group are fromseven schools around Shah Alam,enlivened the game with their ener-getic cheers supporting the respectivecountries.

    It was a neck to neck game betweenthe Philippines and Indonesia in the boys basketball tournament inMABA stadium. However, it was thePhilippines that emerged champion

    with a 3 point lead over Indonesia.The Philippines headed in

    the first and second quarter of thegame. The Philippines players wereagile and quickly gain control of thegame. The Philippines were strongin their defence as well as theiroffence. They were very professionaland passionate in their game. Simi-larly, the Indonesian team were fastand aggressive in their game. Theygained momentum towards thesecond half of the game and led the3rd quarter of the game with 4

    points. However, they lost 67 64 tothe Philippines at the last quarter.Indonesia will not qualify for the quar -ter finals of the tournament.

    Meanwhile, The Singapor-ean team had good team work andcoordination. They never gave upand managed to get an equalizer atthe fourth quarter of the match.

    Nevertheless, they lost the matchwith just a 6 point difference.

    Elrika Aniela Castro, one ofthe top scorer for the Philippinesteam said it was her duty to honourher country and passion for thesport that inspired her to push on.
