The UPSR English 034 paper has three sections A, B and C which consist of 4 question –

All the questions must be answered

Question A : Comprehension

Question B (i) : Filling in the blanks/comprehension

(ii) : Writing essay

Question C : Writing essay.

Generally, the candidates were able to write the required activities correctly except for a few candidates who wrote unnecessary phrases.

The candidates were able to identify the activities correctly and write letters linking the activities logically. They were able to write a variety of sentence structures meaningfully without any spelling errors. The candidates were also able to use many new words. The number of words used were also within the range.

The candidate was able to transfer the activities correctly to write a meaningful letter. Even though not many new words were used, the candidate was able to write without any spelling or grammatical errors.


QUESTION 4

For question 4 (Section C1) the candidates are required to write a story based a given picture with the helping words. They are required the story between 80 and 100 words.

The candidates were able to use all the helping words given to craft a story based on the picture. The ideas were well planned in the story with many new words used to make the story interesting.


For question 4 (Section C2) the candidates are required to write a story based a given picture with the helping words. They are required the story between 80 and 100 words.

The candidates were able to write well crafted paragraphs with new words being used widely throughout the story. The candidates were also able to insert some idioms correctly. There were also varieties in the sentences written. The candidates were also able to express their ideas expressively in the story.


SUGGESTIONS TO CANDIDATES

1. Keep reading more English materials to maintain a high level of English proficiency. 2. Watch English programs on television example documentaries, news and children educational series.

SUGGESTIONS TO TEACHERS

1. Teach all the skills listed in the syllabus. 2. Motivate students to use the language widely in their everyday activities. 3. Equip students with suggested vocabulary listed in the syllabus. 4. Create meaningful English environment inside and outside the classroom. 5. Make English lessons fun and interesting. 6. Be a good role model and have a close rapport with your students.
